Check engine vacuum and power brake vacuum booster. If the brakes work but just require extra effort to stop, it's a brake boost problem.

I replaced rear brakes front brakes master cylinder vacuum booster and still have Excessive brake peddle travel in 1990 GMC Sierra 1500?

If the pedal feels soft and spongy, you have air trapped in your brake lines. Did you prime the master cylinder before you installed it? Air in the brake line will not let the fluid fully compress. With all that you changed out, your brakes shoudl feel like new. Read up on how to bleed brakes or take it to a pro.......but don't continue to drive it the way it is.

I replaced the master cylinder and bled the lines on a 1991 s10 Blazer but still no brakes. What else could be the problem?

It could be a few things ...i would check the brake booster.. If it is bad it will make your pedal go all the way to the floor before it will have any brake pedal at all..also i would check your vacuum for the booster for your brakes to work you have to have vacuum on it for it to work !hope this helps, and as allways if you are not sure get a second opinion !

Why would a 1989 Jeep Cherokee still have bad brakes if you replaced calipers booster pads shoes drums and master cylinder?

Did anybody bleed the brake lines? There is possibly still air trapped in lines and air compresses brake fluid does not.

Can the brake booster cause your brake pedal to go to the floor?

No, a busted brake booster will not cause the brake pedal to go to the floor. It will however cause the brake pedal to be extremely hard to push. A defective master cylinder will cause what you describe. Replace the master cylinder and bleed the brakes. It can because it happened to me. The booster lost vaccum and the pedal went to the floor. Sorry, you are wrong. The only reason the pedal went to the floor was because the master cylinder failed. The brake booster only boosts the pressure on the master cylinder and allows you to not have to push so hard on the brake pedal. Cars of yesteryear did not even have a brake booster and they stopped just fine albeit you had to push the pedal allot harder than with power brakes. A failing brake booster will not cause your pedal to go to the floor although it might cause it to go lower than normal before the brakes apply. As long as the master cylinder is good you will still have brakes, but you will have to really push hard and might even have to pump them up in order for them to stop the car.

What is a brake booster?

The brake booster is what gives you power brakes. In the engine compartment in front of the steering wheel is a round black flat ball looking thing. That's the brake booster with the brake master cylinder attached in front of it. The brake booster uses VACCUM from the engine to multiply the force that your foot applies to the master cylinder. Used with power brake applications

How do you get the brakes to work on the rear of 1993 GMC truck the master cylinder booster wheel cylinder proportioning valve have all been replaced and still very little fluid pressure?

there is not ment to be alot of pressure for the rear brakes, because they are self energizing once they are applied. the brake shoes in the drums are set up to the primary shoe starts to rub on the drum and then it pushes on the other one so it is engaged.

Replaced master cylinder and booster on 2002 f-250 still brakes go to floor WHY IS THIS AND What is the box where the brake lines run into after the master cylinder?

The brakes will have either:Another problemNeed to be properly bled. The additional component is probably the anti lock brake servo. This component requires a special bleeding procedure.

Brakes won't bleed on Chevy 00 blazer?

there is a number of things that would cause your brakes to not bleed. Moisture could have gotten into the lines and rusted the inside and a rust flake may be blocking it. Another reason why is your master cylinder may not be moving. And the thing that happened to me is my brake booster went out which moves the cylinder in the master cylinder...cause me to not have any fluid movement. Pretty spendy to replace the booster....more cost in labor then parts

Brake fluid disappears when applying brakes?

If your vehicle has a vacuum brake booster the brake fluid may be entering the vacuum booster with no visibly spots on ground. To check remove rubber hose usually about 3/8"-5/8" in diameter depending on model of vehicle, look inside of hose to see if it is wet, if so the Master Cylinder needs to be replaced.

What is an integral brake system?

Older cars had integral brakes, meaning that a proportional valve, which is the redundant part of a brake system that prevents total failure of brakes, if a brake line broke you will still have brakes on two wheels, and a master cylinder were all combined in one unit. A nonintegral brake unit typically uses a vacuum booster for power assist. The booster, the master cylinder, hydraulic modulator, and proportional valve are all separate units

When a master cylinder is how can you tell?

A master cylinder should be replaced when it can no longer provide the pressure needed for the brakes to operate. You can tell it is failing when the pedal becomes soft.

92 Chevy cavalier master booster cylinder replacement is easy?

Yes, replacing the booster is fairly easy. Just remember to bleed the brakes if you have to remove a brake hydraulic line. Bleed in this sequence. RR-LR-RF-LF

What modifications for changing manual drum brakes to power drum brakes on a 66 Plymouth Fury III?

You just need to install a power brake booster between the master cylinder and the firewall and then supply vacuum to the booster. I would recommend you hit the salvage yards. They will be able to sell you all you need. This is a very simple conversion.

Do you have to replace the master cylider if the slave cylinder has been replaced in a 1993 Saturn?

The Slave Cylinder and the Master Cylinder control totally different systems. The Slave has to do with the clutch, and the Master has to do with the brakes. They have nothing in common.

This grossly unsafe. If you have just the booster fail the brakes will still work but not well. If the brakes fail completely you could crash and die.

How do you fix the rear wheel brakes from locking up?

If the rear wheel brakes are locking up on a vehicle they should be thoroughly checked. The master cylinder may need to be replaced on the car.

Why might a 1999 Chevy venture accelerate on its own making it difficult to stop with recently replaced brakes and then idle very high when put in park?

First thing I would look for is a loose vacuum line to the engine, sucking in the extra air. If the brakes feel "hard", look on the brake booster (the big round thing that the master cylinder is attached to) for a disconnected vacuum source line.
