Possible vaccum leak/lean condition. If it is a older model check base of carb for vaccum leaks also check all hoses i.e. pcv, egr, brake vaccum booster. If any of these areas leak vaccum, the engine will run very lean and die. If your vehicle is a newer model, check all the above plus the idle air control valve/ motor. When you check for a vaccum leak, look for the obvious; cracked hose, hose pulled off, etc. After you checked this, have a assistant keep engine running while you take a can of WD40 and spray along the base of the air intake/carb system and spray around the egr valve( which could be sticking open). When you find a vaccum leak the engine will temorarily smooth out until the fluid has been consumed. Remember, if the engine will run at higher RPMS, but wont idle it is most likely a loss of vaccum that is causing the problem. Good luck
AnswerIt could also be the throttle positioning sensor (TPS), I have found it to be more common than not. try this first many times over lookedcheck your battery voltage a low battery can be the problem it can start but it draws the voltage so low cranking it zaps the computer memory and that includes idle easy test hook up jumper cables or booster box and see if it starts and runs goodCOUPLE OF THINGS TO CHECK 1.idle sensor 2.throttle body
Minimum of 15 psi at idle when warm, 30 would be better.Should go over 40 psi at 2000 rpm.Minimum of 15 psi at idle when warm, 30 would be better.Should go over 40 psi at 2000 rpm.
I wish I had the answer - this just started happening to me today.
If you have a multi port fuel injected 6 cyl, it's probably the idle air control. I have replaced mine a couple of times over the years. 2 screws and it plugs into the throttle body next to the throttle position sensor. Costs around $60.
Check the vaccume return hose that goes over the block on top. Mine was dried out and I was losing pressure at the connection. That was causing mine to do chug.
idle air motor needs to be replaced there is spring that goes over a plunger which shuts and opens depending on air mixture it is sticking half open or just stuck open u can get this part a autozone for 45bucks.
There are several different things that could be causing your car not to start. You may be out of gas, your starter might be bad, or your battery could be dead.
If there is an erratic idle then the idle air control valve can be malfunctioning. First perform an engine diagnostic to see if there are any malfunctioning sensors. The ECU will the be able to determine if the idle air control valve is broken.
It could be a bad motor mount or mounts. Motor mounts have rubber in them and go between the engine and the frame. Over time the rubber gets brittle and wears out, causing the engine to shake.
tourque coverter. u can usually bypass the tc by unplugin it however u will not have over drive if u do.had the same prob on a lumina..
This is a electronic fuel enjected engine and therefore the electonics set the engine idle speed a bit higher during a cold start so the engine will not stall out.
is your timing off? are you getting any spark at all?
