I had the same problem on my '96 Golf mk 3, it can be either a) not making contact on battery terminals or b) the battery needs to be replaced... Hope it helps
1) new battery may be the needed if its not solved, check the fuses (couple need be replaced) ,i did that started working.
no the odometer is for the car not the engine
no, installing a new engine will not reset the odometer, it's against the law to reset odometers.
Sorry It Will Not Reset It
With the engine off, press and hold the odometer reset pushbutton. Start the car. Keep finger on odometer reset pushbutton until "oil life" message starts flashing. Release the button.
the engine
The Trip Odometer is normally reset by pushing and holding the reset button in. The odometer can not be reset.
You cannot reset the clock, Neopet Time is the same in every country.
You cannot reset the odometer in your car, however you can reset your trip odometer.
switch ignition to on and press and hold the odometer reset button until the engine lights goes off.
Make sure odometer (ODO) is slelected (not trip odometer). Hold in odometer "reset" botton. Turn Igniotion to ON but do not start engine. Light will flash and go off. Turn Ignition OFF. Release "reset" button.
With the engine off and the odometer readout set to miles and not to Trip A or B, push and hold the odometer reset button while at the same time turning the ignition on without starting the engine. After 5 seconds the light will reset.
AnswerThe 98 Pontiac stores the odometer in the instrument panel cluster. The odometer can be reprogramed either by the dealer or there are companies that will re-program it for you (seach google, there are lots). Or you can buy the odometer programmer for about $1000 but its cheaper to just send the cluster module in. (not only is it legal to reset the odometer; its required in most states when you replace the engine. The odometer is required to reflect the mileage of the engine *NOT* the vehicle)
