I my experience, I would next check out the distributor and make sure that it and the #1 cylinder are aligned. Then if not that, goto your timing and check to see if the timing is off.. does it turn over slowly or not at all ,,you need to explain a little more for me to help you In my experience with a 94 Ford f150, it was the cylinoid!! If you had your vehicle checked at a professional auto shop, go get your money back. It is the rules and regulations in most shops that they not only check the battery and starter, but to also check the distributer and the cylinoid as well. I have had my truck for 8-9yrs now and I have always had it annually checked thoroughly...it has kept me from walking home when I needed a rig to drive.

Bad battery cables, bad engine to chassis ground, or possibly incorrect timing. chek the iol maybe your seized the motor My 1989 Pontiac Bonney has a great battery and a Fairly New Starter. When I go to Crank mine it starts like it would be a weak battery, but crank over and run great. Then at other times it will turn over and crank with a small hesitation, but will start no problems. Question. Does your needle on your tach move up and down between 500 rpm and 1000 rpm?

How do you start your 1997 Nissan sentra when you put a new starter alternator battery in and it won't start it makes a click noise and the lights and stereo still work?

Sometimes, brand new batteries need to be charged for a while before they have the power to engage the solenoid/starter properly. The battery may have enough jucie to light up the headlights and run the stereo, but not to crank the engine.

What does it mean when your car is making a loud fast clicking noise and the engine doesn't turn over?

Starter solenoid defective. if you have replaced your siloniode and you still have the same problem just trun the key on ON then take a screwdriver and touch the two terminals togather quikly and it should work great after. Starter solenoid hooked up reversed or poor ground, low battery or corroded connections @ battery It has been my experience that a faulty solenoid or relay will only click once when you try to start the vehicle. A rapid clicking noise would indicate a low battery, poor ground, or corroded connections as stated above.

Where to find and how to replace the starter on a Taurus - Sable?

What does a starter cost? 1998 DOHC: Autozone has two offerings: $135 for a re-manufactured unit and $155 for brand newWhat about the starter solenoid? The starter solenoid is integrated into the body of the starter, and cannot be replaced separately. You will need to replace the entire starter assembly.New Answer It is simple to replace. They are located at the front of engine.Disconnect Negative Battery cable first, raise vehicle and support vehicle, remove the electrical wires from starter, remove mounting bolts (2 or 3) and remove starter.I know this because I used to work on them. Answer Remove - battery cable Raise and support vehicleDisconnect wiring harness at top of starterRemove starter mounting boltsRemove starter Where to find the starter the easiest way to find the starter on any vehicle is to follow the wire directly from the battery down to the starter, it may go from the battery to a junction post used for jump-starting, but it will go from there to the starter because you need a direct flow of current from the battery to turn the starter over. Starters are typically found at the front - bottom of the engine.Note that the front end of the starter inserts into the place where the transmission and engine join up, so look in the middle section At the end of the rad battery cable coming off the battery. Answer Disconnect Battery First It's simple. 2 bolts, two wires. Raise the front of the car, put jackstands underneath. Crawl under the front, look up, there is the starter. Remove the two wires, note their positions, one is big, the other is small. Remove the two bolts, remove the starter, be careful not to let it drop on your head, it might hurt. Replace the install the two bolts, install the two wires(they will only go on one way). Lower the car, reconnect the battery, and Voila! 30 minutes later, you are done! Go get an ice cream or a soda, you deserve a reward! Remove one post from battery then wire connections from starter. Remove mounting bolts and remove starter. Towards the front of the car about a foot back from the radiator bolted to the engine/trans.; it is accessible from underneath.Sable Starter The starter on a 96 Sable with a 3.0 litre is at the front of the engine (looking down on the engine compartment with the hood open standing at the front of the car) where th engine and transaxle bolt together. To lay down under the bumper and looking up is the best way to view. Go get an ice cream or a soda, you deserve a reward! Answer Disconnect the battery, raise the front end and crawl under the car. The starter is bolted to the transmission bellhousing, and will be held on with either 2 or 3 bolts. There will be two wires going to the starter, one held on with a 13mm nut, the other held on with either an 8mm or a 10mm nut, or it may have a small spade type connector. There will also be a ground wire attached to one of the starter bolts with a nut. Disconnect the two wires and the ground wire, unbolt the starer, and replace. It is noyt difficult, and it will probably take you about 30 mins to do, once you figure our what tools you need, which you should be able to do everything with a basic socket set, as long as you have some deep well sockets. Answer It's simple. 2 bolts, two wires. Raise the front of the car, put jackstands underneath. Crawl under the front, look up, there is the starter. Go get an ice cream or a soda, you deserve a reward! Answer The solenoid is part of the starter. Replace the entire starter. It is located next to the oil filter at the front of the motor. Follow the positive battery cable; it will first lead to the starter solenoid and then continue to the starter.Disconnect the - battery cable Raise and support vehicle Remove wiring from top of starter Remove starter mounting bolts Remove starterAnswer - 1992 remove + battery cable remove starter, I used a 3 foot extension to get to the one nasty bolt in back, put just in front of the left front tire..sometimes it pays not to get too close to your work!! Its not hard, but access to bolts are terrible. It look simple till you try and get a socket or wrench on the nut/bolt!! install new starter, hookup wires at starter, then battery+. crank, crank, zoom, zoom [with the 3.8] Inspect for damaged wiring in the harness for the starter. Sharp corners can cut..Depends what year is it, on a 1998 it's at the bottom by the oil pan and there are three boltsThe starter is located just underneath the oil filter. This is a fairly simple repair. You will need a socket set (you can do it with wrenches if you have to, but sockets make it much easier) and a jack.1. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.2. The starter is located directly below the oil filter. It is held on by two bolts which are to the right of the oil filter. One is easiest reached from the top of the car and the other from the bottom. If you have trouble locating the bolts, just take a look at your new starter to determine where the bolts are located. The bolts screw in from the driver's side of the car.3. Once the bolts are off, the starter should be loose from the engine. (You can thank the designers at Ford for making this a particularly dirty job. The starter gets doused with oil every time the oil filter is taken off so get you can expect the bolts and the starter to be covered in grease and gunk.)4. Maneuver the starter so that the terminals facing up so you can easily get to them from the top of the engine compartment. Pull the terminal cover off. Remove both cables from the starter. The starter should now be completely free.5. Place the cables on your new starter and replace the terminal cover. Bolt the starter back in same position as the old one.6. Reconnect the negative battery terminal and start the car.Remove the Negative(black) wire off the battery Raise and support the car. using a 10mm wrench remove the smaller cable going to the starter. using a 13mm wench/socket remove the larger cable that comes strait from the Positive (Red) terminal of the battery from the Starter using a 13 mm wench remove the lower and upper starter bolts. The heads for these are on the engine side of the starter. They will likely be hard to turn at first.the starter should now be easy to remove. Compare the old and new starter to make sure they match, then do the above steps in reverse.

How do you replace the starter in a 1989 Chevrolet Celebrity?

on a 1984 caprice this is tricky but not very hard. First thing you do is remove negative battery connection and block back tires & set brake, then lift front pass side of car. Behind wheel there is a support that has to come off first. don't worry it's just a bracket for frame support, it wont hurt to remove this part for now. then you'll see 2 wires 1 big one that goes to battery positive, remove that connection first. then the little one next. now that the wires are off, look for two bolts ,they should be 9/16 or 14mm? one is long & one is short don't mix these up! some are the same size. loosen them slowly. the starter motor is heavy so be careful. once you remove bolts there might be a hold down or grounding bracket. remove & turn starter out! remember how you take it out, since it has to go back in the same way! reverse procedure to install.

How do you change a starter for a 2004 Mercury Sable?

Remove both leads to the battery. There are two bolts holding the starter to the transmission. One, the bolt closer to the radiator has a ground on it and has a nut on the bolt fastening the ground lead to the bolt. After removing the ground a deep socket will be needed to remove the bolt. The rear bolt comes out and you have a starter in your hands. You have a positive cable attached to the starter and an ignition bypass still attached that must be removed before you can drop the starter.I have changed brushes in the 3.8 starter and found the starter will go another 100,000 miles. This is a gear reduction starter that should be checked to draw about 80 amps without a load. Some will draw more than 130 amps which is definitely over spec. The cost of brushes lists for $50 but can be purchased for $15 from a starter rebuilder.A little grease on the bearing surfaces, and a little polishing of the communtator, and the starter will work well for years.AnswerHey Russell==Disconnect the battery. Raise the car up and remove the wires from the starter. Then remove the bolts and work it out among the exhaust pipes. GoodluckJoe ---The reason so many look at this topic may be the chilton manual which shows a diagram of the 3.0L starter shrunk down to unreadable. What looks like the top bolt is not connected to the starter at all. The bolt labled "stud" which holds the cable routing bracket has to be removed after the bracket and nut are removed. Also unless you have an air rachet, no normal length tool can be used to break the top bolt loose without removing the fan and shroud, and the stud that holds cable managment bracket. Also the relays and controllers mounted to the rail above the radiator. After that the exhaust pipes are not really in the way of removal.AnswerThat top bolt is a real challenge - I assembled about 2 feet worth of socket driver extensions and fed it to the bolt from straight out and to the far right side. This provided lots of swing-room for the ratchet wrench. GavelAnswerDisconnect one battery cable. You can disconnect the positive instead of the negative just for fun if you like, but don't arc out. Jack up the front of the car (and yadda set it on stands, yadda set parking yadda brake.)The starter is bolted to the engine near the bottom on the side closer to the radiator. This is a very easy one to get to. You may need 13mm and 15mm sockets, both deep and short as well as wrenches of those sizes to remove it. On some cars a 17mm deep may also be required Be careful not to damage the ground strap on the lower mounting stud. This will be the easiest starter you ever replace unless you're using a Pep Boys guaranteed defective prostart brand unit that you'll replace within a few days.If your transaxle has been replaced by a dimwit or slacktard, the nut on the lower mounting stud may not be removable in place any you may break the ground strap at that stud. If so, DO NOT forget to repair this ground strap.Wear high quality thick latex gloves that fit well. Keep a few extra gloves and rags handy. If this is a 3.0L engine (not a 3.8L which has blown it's third head gasket by now) the starter will be covered in nasty partially burned oil because every time the filter is removed it drains onto the starter. Keep a few spare gloves handy.AnswerLook for your oil filter. The starter should be just by where the filter is mounted.I'm looking at a close up picture so I have no idea where this is. - Disconnect the large cable from the terminal on the starter moter.- Remove the 2 bolts attaching the rear support bracket to remove bracket.- Remove the 2 bolts connecting the starter to the bellhousing. There should be a ground wire attached to the upper bolt.- transmission type: - automatic - remove starter between the radiator and subframe. - manual - remove starter between the subframe and engine.Answerwhile your answer was good, may i suggest that folks always disconnect the battery first. This is always a good practice to follow anyway in order to prevent an aciccident or blown computer. AnswerStarter id almost dead center (from side to side) just benind the radiator, in the hardest possible location to reach, and it is right next to the oil filter. Ford was kind enough to leave no way to easily remove it, much less install a replacement. Be prepared to remove the fan, etc., and bring lights, extensions, floppy sockets, mirors, or a small child. Good luck.

Why won't my 97 Mitsubishi Mirage manual shift turn over It has a brand new battery and it sounds like I can hear a click but I'm not sure. Where's the starter and the solenoid?

The solenoid is an integral part of the starter in most modern vehicles. Also for most modern vehicles, the starter is near the bottom of the engine, and the drive end of the starter connects through the back of the casting into the flywheel. (the flywheel is between the engine and transmission) A clicking sound can indicate that the starter/solenoid is not getting enough current. This can be caused by a poor electrical connection between the battery and the solenoid. If the battery is new, it could possibly be that the connection to the battery was not tightened down properly. Check to see if the battery clamps are tight. Follow the thick cable from the battery to the starter, and check to see if the end connected to starter is tight. Check the negative connection from the battery to the engine block for tight connections. Try removing the battery clamps and cleaning the connections. Replace the clamps, tighten, and test again. I have a 1990 Mirage, and the starter/solenoid is on the rear of the engine below the intake manifold. The bolts for the starter are on the left side of the engine, and go through the transmission housing where it connects to the engine.

Does it turn over? Does the starter crank? Why did you replace the battery? It takes 3 things for an engine to run, fuel, air and spark.
