One of the things I feel she would have liked to see was the role given female pilots in WW2. - The governments (of US, Britain and Canada) could have ignored them, but opened up thousands of jobs for experienced female fliers as delivery and communications pilots. Most people still don't know it, but throughout WW2 almost all of the Allies large bombers and many of the fighters were delivered from their building plants to the squadrons by female pilots. This often entailed long dangerous flights in unarmed aircraft over the Atlantic to Britain and Africa. I know of this principally as my Dad worked at an RAF Bomber Maintenance Unit in Libya in 1941-43. The American women fliers delivered bombers to his unit to have desert air filters installed and he told me how stunned they were when a Boston or Marauder arrived direct from the US and women pilots emerged ! - Amelia would have loved that. - well, maybe not -she would have wanted to be a fighter pilot - -
