The fuel pump is combined with a fuel filter a float (fuel level sending unit) that sends info to the fuel gage. The unit should be located inside the fuel tank. The fuel tank will need to be lowered to access the fuel pump unit. The pump assembly is held in the tank by a lock ring. If you're not too sure about this job you may want to farm the work out. The job isn't too difficult but can be dangerous if not careful. If you still want to do the work yourself I would recommend a repair manual. Haynes and Chilton are very good and will take You through it step by step. For about $18.00 You can get a manual. Most auto parts stores have them or can get You one.

Actually, the fuel filter on a Jeep Cherokee (XJ) is located on the frame near the left rear tire, not with the fuel pump. The fuel pump has a strainer, but not a filter per se.

This is for 1993 Jeep Cherokee 4.0? The fuel pump is a electronic fuel pump and will be located inside your tank. If you crawl under the car and check out your gas tank you will see a circular shape towards the top of your tank. You should see both fuel lines and electrical plugs in it.
