What are the dangers of the chemical element calcium?

Calcium reacts violently and explosively with water, steam or moisture, and is therefore dangerous when wet. This means that exposure to moist air may result in ignition or an explosion. In addition, calcium causes eye and skin irritation, and potentially burns. If it is inhaled, severe respiratory tract irritation may occur. Because of this, appropriate PPE should be worn.

How much calcium should a child intake daily?

The daily recommended intake of calcium for both male and female adults 19-50 years of age is 1,000 mg or 1 gram. Experts suggest that individuals in their teens and twenties, especially women, should be sure to get enough calcium during this time due to the fact that this is the period that calcium bone deposition begins to decline.

Why does bone density decrease when there is more calcium in your blood?

The average elderly man or woman of around 65 yeas of age, has a negative calcium balance and a bone mass which is gradually depleting (osteoporosis). In older postmenopausal women, who have been in their menopause for at least five years or more, evidence suggests that the effectiveness of a higher intake of calcium to ward off or delay bone depletion, is at best unclear or has no effect. Exercise in youth is a factor which improves bone density in old age. Evidence also suggests that a calcium supplementation does not prevent bone loss for lactating women who breast-feed their babies and only slightly enhances the gain in bone density after the children are weaned. Supplementation with calcium citrate malate has been seen to be more effective than supplementation with calcium carbonate, depending on the doses tested. Calcium intake needs to be supplemented with vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) in order to be most effective, rather than with just calcium.

What language does calcium come from?

calcium came from a rock. +++ Yes, that's its source for plants and animals, but as a solution in water of limestone's & chalk's principle constituent, calcium carbonate. Further back it derives from hydrolysis (a form of dissolution in water) of the calcium-silica compounds existing as minerals making up the igneous rock, granite. Thus released into the seas it can re-enter the complicated "rock cycle" by being taken up in the formation of limestone & chalk. Ultimately, like every other chemical element on this planet and around the Universe, calcium is created by nuclear fusion in giant stars whose eventual death has the energy to initiate these reactions, and then to blow them out into Space in Supernovae bursts.

Because the 6 year old is still growing, whereas the dad would (may be growing) but not as much as the child. The child needs calcium in his bones to get taller, the dad is growing much slower if at all and so he needs less.

How would a 15 year old girls dietary needs differ from that of a normal person?

she would need a decent intake of iron because she is a girl. she would need as much calcium as posible, as her body wont absorb much after the age of 18 and lack of calcium could lead to osteoporosis (bone softening) later in life. As a teenager she may need to eat more as she is growing, but pretty much just keep having a healthy, well balanced diet.
