His full name was Wallace Nutting- he was a famous American photographer who specialised in pastoral images, as well as pictures of colonial home interiors. Active from 1900 until his death in 1941, he hand-tinted or coloured most of his pictures himself, preferring this method to the use of early colour film. He was also the author of over 20 books on art, antiques and interior design, including the widely renowned States Beautiful series, still used today as the foremost reference works on old American furniture, clocks and early US Photography. He also published his autobiography. He also established the Wallace Nutting Studio, which produced bespoke reproductions of colonial antique furniture.
