∙ 13y agoIt split up from Mexico in 1835, becoming an independent republic in 1836. Then on 1845, it was admitted to the union, prompting the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). At the end of such conflict, Mexico was forced to let Texas go, as well as most of the present-day Southwest US.
