If the scanner does not turn off the light, you might want to find out if something else is wrong. In any case, it's a good idea to have your own code scanner, and the upgraded version is better since it lets you clear codes. if the problem is fixed then your pcm will shut it off automatically after 50 or so starts with the code not being thrown again. or you can take it to autozone and they will shut it off for you free of charge.

The check engine light comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. Generally, a check engine light is lit when there is a problem in the emissions or somthing that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions.

It's called dieseling, and i had the problem in my 87 Caprice for a while. A quick solution is to shut your truck off while it's still in gear and put it in park when the engine completely shuts off.
It was engine failure. These idiots are saying it crashed into another plane and that's not what happened. Gooogle it, its engine failure.
