I just did my own ball joints the other day. I paid about $70 each at garage cost here in Canada. I would estimate the labour to be roughly 3 hours times the door rate which varies from shop to shop. Since you have to remove the wheel bearing/hub assy., it might be a good idea to buy a couple of wheel bearings too. There shouldn't be any extra labour charge to replace these since they have to take them off to do the ball joints. And if you really want to spend money you can replace the brake pads and maybe the rotors too......that's right.....since they have to take them off to do the ball joints. Have fun.
30 dollars
Assuming you don't mean GRAND Cherokee (which I am not familiar with), there are no ball joints, wheel bearings or tie rods in the rear of a Cherokee. It could be something as simple as your centercap being loose, your break drum needing adjustment (altho I doubt it), loose lug nuts, or even suspension. Take it to a mechanic.
The ball joint is located on the front knuckle. There is one on the top and bottom of each side. Here is a photo of it: http://www.myjeepxj.com/uploads/images/Jeep/Lift/Front/Front%20003%20(Custom).jpg
I had a 97 Grand Cherokee, and I found someplace on the internet(sorry I don't remember who) that had the oem replacements. The ones found locally would have worked, but the oem's pivoted on a ball joint. Then it was simply a matter of swapping them out.Four screws each, and it was done. Hope that helps.
The minie ball replaced the lead ball that was used in the American Revolution.
I think your shocks are sticking or getting stuck as they move up and down. You probably need to replace them. It could also be that one of the components of the suspention is loose or worn out so check all of the bushings and ball joints.

You need to have a "Ball joint press".
In the Standard Beetle the ball joints are pressed into the trailing arms. You need a special press tool to replace these. In the Super Beetle the ball joint is part of the lower control arm, you replace the arm when the ball joint is worn out.
You can not just change the ball joint , you have to replace the whole lower control arm with ball joint.
first you take it in then pay them to do them for you!!!!!!!!!!
