Why Does your 2000 Sunfire rev to 4000 rpm Its a 5 speed with a 2.2. I replaced the idle motor?

most likely its the throttle position sensor they opperate on a 0 to 5 volt system if the vehicles computer cannot sense the voltage it does not know where the engine needs to idle its a 75 dollar part at the local autopac or napa

If you switch a 98 motor into a 200 I think you would need the computer and all the wiring. Around 2000 they switch to coil on plug if I'm remembering right. 1998 should be the old distributor motor which I think won't work with the 2000s computer and wiring. i just did a engine swap in mine, i used one from a 98 sunfire gt, still the 2.4l. so any 2.4l motor from another sunfire should work, just make sure its from 1997 and up, or if you want to go to the extreme, a chevy cobalt ss motor also fits in as well,
