"How" is easier to answer, but since you asked the "why" I'll try my best to explain why.
At the time of James Madison and in creating the Constitution for our Democracy we live in now, there was no way of knowing just how it would (230+ years old) translate to today's government. To quote Robert Dahl from "A Preface to Democracy" he begs the question whether or not Madison would have foreseen the problems that A Democracy has created for us (there are many, you can look them up). His answer: "I highly doubt it". They established a form of republican Democracy as the framework because (as explained thoroughly in The Federalist #10) a direct democracy creates, among many other things, tyranny of the majority.
So, to answer your question, we can only try and assess and analyze why. But, there are some facts and viewpoints that should be taken into consideration.
The "framers" of the constitution did not intend for political parties to be created, however the "right vs. left" divide forced it. This same divide has been true throughout history since the dawn of civilization. Its not that democracy encourages political parties. Democracy just allows political parties to be formed, but often when one or two political parties share the vast majority of funds or power, they are able to outspend "third party" candidates by huge amounts and essentially control the entire government.
The three methods of presidential election discussed by the framers of the Constitution include using electoral college, simply selecting the president, and electing directly. As of 2014, the president is elected using the electoral college.
Democracy is a Greek word which means: Mob rule. Mob mentality is hardly the sort of opinion anyone should want to use as council. There is no greater kangaroo court than the court of public opinion. Logic and reason give way to common sense and common sense gives way to common sentiments and common sentiments give way to mistrust and fear. Why is public opinion held in such regard? I'm not exactly sure what Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan are up to as I try to avoid this type of news but it's clear just by listening to public opinion that they are surely up to something and the public is fascinated by it. In the United States the word democracy is bandied about as some sort of buzz word for honored freedom. Yet in the United States the Constitution provides for a republican form of democracy with clear restraints placed upon a democracy. Those restraints exist because the framers didn't trust public opinion any more than I do today. Public opinion is not to be trusted exactly because people like to ask questions like what factors determine the formulation of public opinion in a democracy. What factors? How about propaganda? Psychological fear, the promise of plunder, protection from our common enemies no matter how real, these are factors that determine public opinion anywhere. Follow the masses if you so chose, you are free to do so. That is, of course, unless the masses have gained a true democracy and the majority has decided that you are not free to do so after all.
False. The Constitution does not mention political parties. The framers of the Constitution did not anticipate the rise of political parties and did not include any references to them in the document.
what are the political requirements to become a good presidentail candidate?Being able to spell President is helpful. It's not very Presidential to not be able to spell your job title...The Constitution requires that a candidate for the presidency must be a "natural-born" citizen of the United States, at least 35 years of age, and a resident of the United States for at least 14 years.Natural-BornAn understanding of the nation is essential for the role of President. The framers of the Constitution strongly believed that a person must be born in the United States in order to fully understand the country.35 Years of AgePersonal experience was very important to the framers. They felt that unless a person had reached the age of thirty-five, it was highly unlikely for that person to have experienced enough to govern a nation.14 Year ResidencyPart of being President involves dealing with both domestic and foreign problems. In order to face these problems, previous knowledge of the nation's history in these matters is necessary. The framers decided that fourteen years was an adequate time span to comprehend these issues.
A democratic republic - a government in which voters elect representatives to do the every day business of government and decision making.
They feared an overpowering democracy could be tyrannical.
The Framers knew the direct and pure form of democracy and they feared that the emotional decisions taken by the populace; which is called unrestricted Majority Rule; may violate the individual rights. Therefore they chose the republic form of government in which the people choose individuals to represent them and transform their will into rational and reasonable decisions. after many amendment in the US constitution the government became a democratic republic.. or what we can call "representative or liberal democracy".A republic as opposed to a pure democracy
Framers opposed a direct democracy for many reasons. The most important reason is because they were afraid of the rule of a majority.
yes
Government by the people. < ----correct novanet answer.
i had the same question and this is the answer i got:
The Founders universally opposed democracy--we are a Republic, not a Democracy, which means, by definition, that we have a representative form of government not a direct vote. Alexander Hamilton said that "democracy was the surest path to tyranny".
yes
Pure democracy essentially means that majority opinion rules; the Framers feared that this would oppress the rights of minorities. So, they provided a framework for a republican form of government, consisting of elected representatives.
tyranny of the majority
