There are several religions which disallow the consumption of meat. Buddhists don't eat meat, especiallly the monks and nuns. Some lay Buddhists do eat meat. Hindus are mostly vegetarian although some branches of Hinduism allow meat in their diet. The Hare Krishna religion are completely vegetarian. Jehovah's Witness have a varying history of vegetarianism. Their belief, after their interpretation of the Bible scriptures (Leviticus in particular) forbade them to eat food with blood in it and since meat contained blood they were not permitted to eat it. Christians are allowed to eat meat although those who have taken holy orders (ie. monks and nuns in enclosed orders) are vegetarian.
