The first hurdle is set 13 meters from the starting line. The next 9 are set 8.5 meters from each other. The finish line is 10.5 meters from the last hurdle.

Updating the previous article. On June 6, 2009, Reggie Wyatt of La Sierra High School in Riverside, CA ran 35.02, in a preliminary race of the California State Meet to take the National (NFHS) record for 300 hurdles. The previous record-holder was Jeshua Anderson from Taft High School in Woodland Hills (Los Angeles), CA who ran 35.28, in the finals of the CIF California State Meet in 2007. His record narrowly beat the record of 35.32 set by George Porter of Cabrillo High School in Lompoc, CA (in a preliminary meet qualifying him for that same California State Meet in 1985) that stood for over 22 years.

In theory, elite open 400 hurdlers can pass the 300 mark at a faster pace en route, but there have not been any official situations to time them at that point (usually near the end of a curve. Given the opportunity, that same quality of athlete could easily break the high school record quality time finishing 100 meters early, but athletes of that level do not get asked to run the shorter distance.

There usually the lowest setting of the hurdle...so about100 yards high i pretty sure.. lmao

The standard setting for Men's 110 Meter High Hurdles is 39 inches.

The way I used to run this race was:

1. Explode out of the blocks: Make like that starter guy is trying to shoot you.

2. Be the first to the hurdles, take about 7-8 steps: This may sound like a cliche, but if you get to the hurdles first, you are probably going to win.

3. "Knee up, foot down": These 4 words will change the way you run the hurdles. If you lead with your knee instead of your foot, then your foot will follow. Try it, it works. And push your knee down after you clear the hurdle to get the lead foot down as fast as possible.

4. Sprint between the hurdles: You can't win if you don't sprint.

5. 3 step the hurdles: As soon as possible, learn the 3-step. If you don't, you will most certainly come in last place.

6. Finish strong: You have about 6-8 steps until the finish line from the last hurdle. Don't cop out.

7. Tape yourself: The best way to troubleshoot what went wrong in a race is to tape yourself and watch what you are doing wrong.

Theres a lot of people that say 30 seconds, or even 28... but thats unrealistic. For guys, I would say around 30-34 average time, for girls average would probably be about 35-38 seconds. This is the average times from the first meet, so don't be hard on yourself!

Youth age divisions are not exactly based on age, but by birth year. So a particular birth year competes in the same division for an entire season, whether or not their birthday (or thus numerical age change) has occurred. Very fast about 17 sec, very slow is about 30-35 sec, so average about 24-25 sec.

It should be. In 55m, 60m and 110m hurdles, the distances between the hurdles are the same.

It depends on the individual. Far fewer hurdles are knocked down in women's hurdling than in men's because the hurdles are lower relative to the average height of women hurdlers.

There is no penalty for knocking down a hurdle when attempting to jump over it. Although, I guess there is one penalty and that is the runner will not be as fast because of hitting the hurdle. But a runner will not be disqualified for knocking down a hurdle.
