Montezuma II, the ninth ruler of the Aztec Empire, sought revenge primarily due to the Spanish conquest led by Hernán Cortés. After initially welcoming the Spaniards, he realized their true intentions were to conquer and exploit his empire. The betrayal and violence inflicted upon his people fueled his desire for retribution against the invaders. Additionally, the loss of power and the threat to his empire's sovereignty further intensified his need for vengeance.

The Spaniards did however end their reign of power through a combination of religious, psychological, linguistic, and germ warfare. The Aztecs had no natural defense against these diseases, which were the main cause for their downfall.

In total, European diseases and slavery wiped out 90% of America's Native population, which was equivalent to 10% of planet Earth's population. Much greater then the entire continent of Europe. The Aztecs did not die out however, they just became ruled by the Spaniards.

In addition, the Aztecs did not call themselves 'Aztecs', they called themselves Mexicas.

The modern day Mexicans are either full blooded Aztecs, Mayans, Zapotec, Mixtec, or Meztiso (of mixed blood). Spanish only comprises of 10% of Mexico's population.

The Aztecs are still alive and festivals are held to this day. Although Mexicans speak Spanish, the majority of them are natives. Some in fact still speak their native Mexica language of Nahuatl. The true language of the Mexicans.

Ordinary Aztecs lived in simple houses, often of just one room. These were made of adobe and any furniture was very simple such as reed mats to sleep on or sit on and low tables. Wooden chests were used to store clothes.

Aztec nobles lived in much grander houses with many rooms. They were usually shaped like a hollow square with a central courtyard. It often contained gardens and fountains.

Aztecs are clean people. Many homes had steam baths next to them. They were small rooms with a furnace outside. The furnace heated the walls of the steam bath. When an Aztec inside the steam bath threw water on the wall it turned to steam.

The Aztec civilization was located in the Valley of Mexico, where they established their capital city of Tenochtitlan on an island in Lake Texcoco. Today, this area is part of modern-day Mexico City.

The Aztecs lived in the Valley of Mexico, surrounded by mountains and volcanoes. The region had a temperate climate and fertile soil, ideal for agriculture. The Lake Texcoco provided water for irrigation and transportation.

The Aztecs were conquered by the Spaniards led by the conquistador Hernando Cortes in the year 1521.

The Aztec land had a varied terrain that included mountains, valleys, and lakes. The capital city of Tenochtitlan was situated on an island in Lake Texcoco, surrounded by marshes and small islands. The Aztecs built causeways and floating gardens to navigate and cultivate the land.

They had three tests for all the young men wishing to become the next Emperor:

1. Fight with a sword

The contestant would have to fight three challengers using flint-tipped wooden swords. The first to draw blood would be the winner.

2. Reading a star chart

The contestant would have to interpret a picture of the heavens drawn by the Chief Priest. The test would include predicting the harvest and recognising all of the important stars.

3. Fighting a mock battle

The contestant was put in charge of a force of five hundred soldiers. He had to use the soldiers to track, surround and capture three hundred soldiers that were been sent into the countryside for this purpose. This was the most important test as it tested the contestant's leadership skills, his battle tactics and his ability to keep a cool head and handle pressure.

Aztecs would choose their new leader when the old one seemed close to death. I think a council of four (who advised the Emperor) and other nobles, helped to choose the new leader. Women could never be leaders.

Not only the Aztecs of Mexico and the Incas of South America were conquered by the Spanish, but also the Mayans in Mexico and northern Central America.

The Spanish were seeking treasure: the gold, pearls and other valuables that the native tribes had accumulated. Considering the natives as savages, the Spanish took anything they found and (with their superior arms) subjugated any tribes that fought them. The Spanish also enslaved many of the Caribbean island populations. The discovery of the New World led to the colonization by the Spanish (and other European nations) of the lands of these groups.

the Spanish brought smallpox to the Aztecs, wiping there population out and the Spaniards were treated like gods and tricked the Aztecs into finding gold for them and treated the Aztecs harshly.

The Spanish had horses, guns, swords, and cannon while the Aztecs still used hand weapons and spears. They also had the backing from tribes who disliked the Aztecs, such as the Talaxcala. However the defeat of the Aztecs and the downfall of Tenochtitlan was mainly due to the ravages of disease. Most of the population of the Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan, were wiped out by the diseases the Spanish brought, to which the natives had no immunity.
