Their knowledge of medicine included use of herbal remedies that prevented muscle spasms. They were aware of the wheel, but only used it in toys.
Despite all the skills mentioned, the lack of certain religious, social, governmental and diplomatic skills lead to their down fall. There lives were too full of violence.

The Aztecs were Native Americans who lived in the Valley of Mexico. They lived in a city called Tenochtitlan. This city was surrounded by two of Mexico's highest mountains. They lived on the water.

The Aztecs got their water from mountain springs.
Their food was either grown or it was hunted. Some of the crops were beans, avocado, squash, sweet patatoes, etc. Some of the things that were hunted were dog, duck, turkey, etc.
Why they lived on the Water:
The Aztecs lived on the water for protection from predators. When I first learned this my thought was: "How do they grow their crops?" The answer is, is that they piled up mud and dirt to make fertile soil to grow. It worked for them.

As far as the incas they lost due to three reasons. 1. Fransisco Pizaro brought horses with him. The Incas had never seen horses and feared them 2. Pizaro's army had guns. Many different groups and regions surrounding the Valley of Mexico can be encompassed in the Aztec definition, however Aztecs are more commonly considered to be the residents who made Tenochtilan, the capital of the empire, their home. Tenochtilan was a city situated on an island in the middle of lake Texococo. The ancient city is now the location of modern day Cuidad de Mexico, or Mexico City in the south central region of the country.
