Bolivia

The landlocked Plurinational State of Bolivia is a South American neighbor of Peru, Paraguay, Chile, Brazil, and Argentina. The Bolivian city of La Paz is the world's highest capital. Bolivia has two capitals what are they?

The capital at La Paz was made the administrative capital in 1898, while the historical capital at Sucre remained the constitutional and judicial capital.

La Paz is the third largest city in Bolivia and a center of commerce and industry.

Sucre was and still is the original capital of Bolivia. It is about 4-5 hours by road from the silver mines of Potosi, which were the primary source of economic power early in the history of independent Bolivia. In 1898 the silver mines were largely exhausted and the weight of the Bolivian economy was shifting toward the tin mines near Oruro. As a result the economic and political power also moved. The executive and legislative branches of government were moved that year to La Paz. The judicial branch remained in Sucre.

Sucre is the constitutional capital of Bolivia, and La Paz is sometimes called the administrative capital. La Paz is not actually a capital city. La Paz is actually just the "seat of government" (better said, the seat of two of Bolivia's three branches of government). The Bolivian Constitution, voted upon and passed in 2009, ratifies Sucre and only Sucre as the capital of Bolivia.

What accent would a person from Bolivia have?

Just in case, Bolivians speak spanish. And of course we have accents, it depends from the region. In Bolivia we have 3 regions, in the west the andes (La paz, Oruro and Potosi), in the middle we have the valleys (Cochabamba, Tarija and Chuquisaca) and in the east and extreme north are the tropical plains (Santa cruz, Beni and Pando). In every region it is a local accent, people from La paz who are the ones that used to live in the high (more than 4000 meters above the sea level), developed a certain nasal pronunciation of the words and tend to replace the -s- sound for an -sh- sound and the -e- for a -i-. Cochabambineans and tarijens are more neutral almost not having notorious accent, but tarijens have a certain rhythm that resembles the Cordobeans from Argentina, in Santa cruz people tend to speak louder and they have a lot of modals, and unique words, they tend to replace the s for a j in words that ends with an s like -estas- turning it in -estaj-.They also use the suffixes -ango-, -ingo- to indicate that something is large or small for example -bichango-, -enaningo-.

Other differences are more socio-cultural, people in La paz are very shy (not all), and they may seem rude but they generally aren't, so they speak really low and only talk short phrases with strangers. People in Santa cruz are more outgoing and will talk you loud with an smile in their face every time. At last but not least are the Cochabambineans in the valleys, well they are like their city's weather "mild", not shy, not outgoing but surely very self-confident, they like to talk about more intellectual topics like literature, history, culture, etc. they are great hosts and use to have very warm hearts, and one of the things i noticed the most was that they are very proud of their own culture (a mix of qechua and incaic roots with spanish colonialism), unlike other parts of the country.

Bolivia is great everywhere you go, and in every part you will meet differnt kind of characters, but all delightful. Im an argentinean living in Bolivia for many, many years residing in the valleys tarija and cochabamba. bye
