The neutral safety switch is located on the steering column where it passes through the firewall on the inside. There are four wires coming out of it. To access it you must remove the small lower dash panels under the steering column, remove nuts holding steering column up to dash, remove four bolts that hold the bracket to column, remove ignition switch mounted on top of column, unplug large plug to lower right of ignition switch on steering column, pull switch out of way while paying attention to ignition switch rod coming from actual key switch and how it goes together. Not sure how to actually remove switch, but I don't think it is too hard. It is a relatively inexpensive part, hardest part is reaching it without tearing more apart. Shouldn't be to big of a problem all in all.

On the dist., cap, where the wires go in, there is a tab labeled TACH.

i think the tank is behind the seat. look on top of the tank and see where the fuel line comes out. remove the assembly and the sender comes out with it.

Factory Pontiac rod journals were 2.25 on all 287-455 V8s from 1955-1978 except for the '77-81 265/301. All connecting rods were also 6.625" except for the experimnental 303, and the '77-81 265/301 .

Chevy 400 rod journals were 2.10" and used a 5.565" rod

take the oil filter off. CAREFULLY cut the top of the filter off, remove the filter element, and cut it to stretch is out. if you see 'metal flakes' in the filter element or in the bottom of the filter case itself, chances are you have a bad bearing. the oil will look like 'metallic paint'.

NO! The 427 Chevy engine was not sold by GM until 1963. The 427 is a big block engine and the very first big block was the 348 introduced in 1958. The 409 was introduced in 1961. The 427 in limited production only in 1963. The 427 was later released again in 1966 as a production engine. The largest engine every offered in the 1957 Chevy was the 283 V8. You could order this engine with mechanical fuel injection in 1957.

You want to make sure that the crankshaft does not come in contact with the oil. Otherwise you will have severe cavitation of the oil and this is just as bad as no oil. If you can use the old dipstick with the new pan, and not fill it above the full mark you should be ok. Just add oil until you reach the full mark and measure the amount you added.

If you stand beside the front passenger side tire and look into the engine, it will be visible. You can get best reach from under the car. Stick your hand upward near the front passenger tire and you will touch the oil filter
