to change brake drums , first determine whether vehicle has semi- floating axles or full floating axles. full floating axles have 6 or 8 blots in the end of the axle. semi- floating axles will have no bolts on the end. to remove full floating axle, remove all bolts. (oil will run out when you do this if you havent drained the differential).you will need a large breaker bar.

if axle doesnt come out, give it a good whack with a large hammer. this will break the seal and allow axle to be removed.

on semi-floatrers only, remove spindle nut with large socket.

on full floaters, using screwdriver and needle nosed pliers, remove c-clip and then key stock both of which hold castle nut in place. unscrew nut with screwdriver in one of the slots. you may also need to get under truck and manually back off the brake shoes via access hole in backing plate. with the nut removed you should be able to slide drum off vehicle. bearings will stay in place unless they are falling apart.

to remove semi floating axle, jack up vehicle. drain diff oil,remove inspection plate from rear of differential,and inside you will see a bolt through a metal block. remove both; push axles inwards. then remove c-clips so you can pull them out.

NOTE:keep axles on side of truck where they came out: axles are different lengths and will fit properly only in the correct sides.

when replacing drums, replace seals and bearings as well. make sure they are packed well with proper grease. this is also a good time to inspect shoes and cylinders. if you replace them as well and need to bleed brakes, use a 1/4" flex bar to access bleeder valve.

The most common type of tranny put behide those were a turbo 350 or turbo 400, you can also put a 700r4 which works with a detent cable, if you wanted to wire up some stuff you can put a 4L60E or a 4L80E which are electronic. A lot of people around my area put a 700R4 since they are not electronic wires, and you also get that extra gear on the highway, since it has overdrive. But the turbo 350, 400 will hold more power if you not going to beef it up. So it realy depends on what you are doing.

Sometimes you can sparay some WD-40 down the valve stems. Remember to turn the motor over by hand, as you could crash a valve into a piston, causing a lot of physical damage.

Alignments are best left to the pros as special guages are required to measure the angles of at least Caster,Camber, and Toe. The Upper Control Arms on this vehicle do have Cam adjustments for Camber and Caster but Factory Plugs must be removed before adjustment can be made.

I have a 2002 Duramax 80,000 miles I have a steady 16mpg to and from work about 20 miles, and on trips running cruise control at 73-74 I have a steady 18.5mpg. Not bad for a truck of its sizebut it could be better.

it depends on the corvette, but assuming its an 87 corvette and an 87 grand national both stock, i would say that it would probably be the grand national but it depends on the track, and if one of them has a ferrari enzo motor

I think its about 120-140 horsepower. But makes a lot of torque at low RPM. More than most V8's

I think you may have misread the casting numbers. It should be a 3998993. The 8's and 3's look a lot alike.

The cast iron powerglide was from 1948 to 1962 when they went to an aluminum case. In 1968 they stopped using 2 pumps and that is why you can't push start one now.

Drivers side head front to rear are cylinders 1-3-5-7 The other head front to rear is 2-4-6-8

Hi, I have have the very same problem. I have a 1991 Chev 3/4 tonne. The long stud (bolt) keeps turning and turning ...and the pulley has become loose but won't remove...and the stud keeps turning without coming off even though I put a pry bar behind it at the same time as using my rachet! Rodney
