My 2005 Chevy 4wd, ext. cab, shrt bed, has push buttons to go from(from top to bottom) Auto 4wheel drive, to 2 High , then to N(neutral), and then to 4 high, then to 4 low. At approx. 50,000 mi. the service indicator light came on and indicated "Service 4wd." I re-set the indicator, and forgot about it. Now, at 63,000 mi. it's telling me to service the 4wd, only this time the reset works until I turn the ignition off. when I restart, the service light comes on. However, the indicator lights that show which gear the transfer case is in, does not light up, and there is no automatic shifting of the transfer case. Is there a simple solution to this problem? Recommendations...Please! popo63
How do you tune up a 1994 Chevy 4.3 liter?
I also have the 4.3 ltr V6 Vortec Engine (both the throttle body engine & one with the FI spyder setup)...and aside from the obvious (replacing cap, rotor, plugs, wires, etc.), I found out the only (or best) way to check out the engine's running quality is to find someone who has one of the older computers (that reads the codes to determine if there are any issues with things like the knock sensor, O2, etc)...The best procedure is to start with the Hayne's manual for 'Your Car', then go thru the recommended procedures. leaving any questionable issues to whatever codes come back to guide you...As an example, the knock sensor may only be half of the problem in an engine's spark knock and it may need a timing adjustment as well (or only)...and really, the feedback 'from the codes' is the best (easiest) method of finding out what is functioning properly and what isn't... Conveniently, all the codes, as well as all the diagrams, obscure part locations, etc. are mapped out in the Hayne's books 'specific to your car and that engine'...Good Luck!... Oh, lastly, regardless of any books and knowledge you have, Finding a 'really good mechanic' (although getting more difficult every year) is without parallel in keeping your engine in top shape and running it's best...

What do you do when your oil is leaking into your exhaust pipe in 93 Chevy 1500?
Your oil is (most likely) not leaking into your exhaust but rather through the head gasket into the cylinder(s).
You have to machine your head and replace the gasket.
(I don't recommend trying this on your own if it's your first time)
I'm assuming of course that you have BLUE smoke coming out of your tail pipe....
if not clarify...

How do you change cv boot on a 1990 Chevrolet k1500?
You may be better off replacing the entire half shaft. When I did mine the core charge was like $360, but the price of the whole thing was only $80. So if you can take the old one off and bring it with you to keep the charge from occurring. I did this in a 1990 Chevy 1500 as well.
Why a hidden gas cap on 56 Chevy?
It was a styling cue. Back then, people used to take all the chrome, and trim off of their cars. These were called "shaved". Without the gas door, on the rear quarter, it gives the panel a smoother look, which is what people wanted. They did the same thing on the 57. Also, back then, they were into the anti theft thing. That is when the numbers matching thing came about. (The engine ID numbers match the vin numbers, making it easier to trace a stolen vehicle) and if no one nows where the gas inlet is, then they cannot siphon your gas. These are two eductated guesses. To the best of my knowledge, Chevy has never openly commented on this.

Why cant you add r12 to r134 what happens?
Why would you want to even consider doing this? R12 is no longer in production and as such it cost almost 4 times as much as R134. But to answer your question, use R12 in a R134 system and you will destroy the compressor as the oil is not compatible with R134 oil.
