What are the sequence of events during CPR?
Follow the 3 C's; Check, Call, Care. For an adult, Check: Check the scene for safety and check the victim for consciousness. Call: If unconscious call 911 (hopefully there is a bystander to make the call for you). Care: Care for the conditions you find. Airway; tip the head using head tilt chin lift method and check for breathing. Look, listen, and feel for breathing. Breathing; if no breathing, give 2 breaths. Circulation; give 30 compressions, followed by 2 breaths. Repeat cycles of 30 compressions and 2 breaths until help arrives.
When giving rescue breaths to an infant you should give 1 breath about every?
Give the breath over a period of 1 second.
You do this until you simply are to exhausted and unable to do it any longer.
There is no time limit.
You do this until proper help (rescuers) arrive.
If person starts breathing by his own strength, then you stop, but you monitor until help arrives.
If a person get only a little bit of oxygen all the time from you assisting breathing, then this can be worth gold when rescuers arrives.
This prevents brain damage for one, and is the one main reason to carry on until rescuers arrive.
Heart may have stopped too, so applying heart compression could be an addition to the situation.
Learn how, it might be saving a life.
Where do you measure with 2 fingers on the sternum each time for CPR compressions?
You don't put your fingers anywhere unless you're rescuing an infant. for adults and children, place the heel of you dominant hand on the center of the victims chest and place your other hand on top of it, interlocking your fingers. Then, push with the weight of your body from your shoulders at a rate of 100 compressions per minute. For Infants, place 2-3 fingers on the chest, just below the nipple line at compress the chest 1/4 - 1/2 inches at 100 compressions per min.
The next step is to place the other hand on the forehead of the victim, and
push down on the forehead as you lift the jaw to bring the chin forward.
How far do you place an aed pad from a pacemaker?
At least an inch (two finger-widths
is how I teach it) as the minimum.
Generally (but not always) the implanted pacemaker is by the left collar-bone
while the AED pad should be under the right one, so we could also say 18+ inches depending on the size of the person.
You would see the chest rise during breaths, which would ensure air is getting into the lungs. During compressions, someone could check the carotid artery to ensure blood is being circulated.
What is ratio of chest compressions to respiration?
Well if you are counting compressions for an adult 5 to 1 for a child 10 to 1. That would be 5 compressions to 1 breath, 10 compressions to 1 breath. Some times the count is broken into groups, but the standards change every second year for some reason. I was trained to do adults 5~1 children 10~1 infants 15~1 Saint John's Ambulance 2005
AED is an acronym that stands for Automated External Defibrillator. It is used to stop the heart's motion via electric shock, effectively hitting the hearts "reset" button. The heart then, hopefully restarts with normal activity. An AED cannot be used when a heart is in asystole, a state of no electrical activity. Also, an AED cannot be used in a moving vehical as that affects the analysis.
When do you perform the head-tilt chin-lift technique?
When using this technique, the rescuer should use one hand to push down on the victim's forehead and with the other hand, lift the victim's chin.
Important: this technique is not to be used in case of trauma as it may further injure the spine.
What should you do if the patient is unresponsive?
Check for pulse.
What is the ratio of rescue breathes on a child?
A Child is someone between the ages of 1 and 12 years old and the normal rate is 15-30 breaths a minute. For providing Red Cross rescue breathing, that equates to a ventilation about every 3 seconds.
Pacemaker Defibrillator
What is the first link in the Pediatric Chain of Survival?
protecting children from injury and cardiac arrest
Should a patient in cardiac arrest receive CPR if they have had a stroke?
ANYONE who is in cardiac arrest should receive CPR. If a stroke victim needs CPR, it means that they are in cardiac arrest, which means they're dead. What would withholding CPR do for your patient.. they're already dead at that point.

A CPR mask is a mask that has a one-way valve on it so that it can be placed over the unconscious person's mouth. The valve only allows air to go into the unconscious person, to put air into their lungs while preventing air and or fluids (saliva, blood, etc.) from getting on you or in your mouth. If you accidentally put it on the person backwards, do NOT turn it around and and put the contaminated side on your mouth. Universal Precautionsassume that everyone has a contagious disease until proven otherwise. (wear gloves, too)
In addition, the mask should be easy to assemble and use; be made of pliable transparent material suitable for use in hot and cold conditions; have a standard valve size; and have an inlet for oxygen.
What should you do for a victim who is injured and conscious?
Follow the acronym:
C- chief complaint; whats hurting?
H- history; has this happened before?
A- allergies?
M- medications?
P- pain assessment; see below
L- last meal?
Pain Assessment follows the acronym:
P- pressure; does it make the pain better or worse?
Q- quality; ask them to describe the pain eg. sharp, throbbing, burning etc...
R- radiation; is the pain radiating to other regions, if so where?
S- severity; ask them to rate the pain on a scale of 1-10, 1 being minimal 10 being the worst.
T- time; how long has this been going on for, have symptoms changed since treatment?
*be sure to ask victim if they would like oxygen- try to sell it to them*
*don't forget to do a rapid body survey to check for any more blood, as well as a thorough body check to see if there are any more wounds.*
The AED pads should be attached as soon as possible to potentially help during a cardiac emergency. A person will follow the instructions of the AED and may require shocking the patient to reset the heart.
Look in the mouth, sweep if you see the object; attempt to ventilate, 30 compressions if breaths don't go in; repeat sweep, breaths, compressions, until breaths go in.
What correct compression depth for CPR for adult?
The proper compression depth on an adult is 2 inches.
How old do you have to be to become CPR certified?
First aid training is good for all ages, just as long as they understand and comprehend what they are supposed to do. Believe it or not, put simply being able to put on a band aid is a form of first aid.... so any age is a good age. To actually become licensed in medical care, usually between 16 and 18 is the minimum age requirements, depending on the organization and laws in your state.
AED precautions are: 1) Do not touch the victim when the AED is analyzing; 2) Do not touch the victim when the AED is defibrillating (shocking); 3) Do not use alcohol to wipe the victims chest; 4) Do not defibrillate around flammable materials; 5) Do not use the AED in a moving vehicle; 6) Do not use the AED in water; 7) Do not use adult pads on children and children pads on adults; 8) Do not use a phone / radio within 6 feet of the AED when in use; 9) Remove any patched from chest area before use (it could be a nitro pad).
How often should CPR certifications be renewed?
Depends on who issued it - for an exact date, contact the issuing agency. Red Cross CPR certifications last for 2 years and American Heart Association certifications last for 2 years. Regardless how long the certification is good for, certain standards like NFPA require it annually. Be sure to check your company policy. Best case practice yearly in regards to OSHA training requirements (BBP). Hospital nurse every 2 years with ARC or AHA. Electrical maintenance technician every year.
What is the ratio of compressions to ventilation for two rescuer CPR on adult?
ALWAYS 30:2 (compressions:Breaths)
one person does compressions, the other one does breaths
if you mean at what point so you switch roles?
it's every five cycles or about every two minutes.
What Put a victim in the recovery position when the victim is?
Yes you should put a victim in a recovery position when victim is unresponsive and breathing.
