CPR in the Church during a service will require knowledge in both First Aid & CPR. You will need to know what to do in an emergency. In addition to knowing CPR and First Aid, you will also do the following things:

1. Scan the congregation frequently to make sure everyone is OK

2. Watch those slain in the spirit and make sure they don't need assistance to their pew after their experience or need water

3. Those operating under the unction of the Holy Ghost may also need assistance seated or need water

4. Make sure the Pastor and speakers have water

If you are using an AED that means their heart has stopped (or you suspect it has) and whatever that patch is, is not going to save them.

The compression rate for CPR should be the same as an adult. That is 100 chest compressions per minute.

The ratio of compressions to breaths should stillbe 30:2. Just like an adult.

Some jobs will require that you be CPR certified; for example jobs in health care, lifeguards, police/fire, EMS, and emergency response teams. Other jobs may request you to be certified to help your colleagues in case of an emergency. At least become CPR and first aid certified to help your family and friends if the situation would require.

4. You may need other 'universal precautions' including goggles, face mask or apron... depending on what you're dealing with.

CPR consists of 30 compressions and 2 breaths, per cycle. CPR is a process to circulate oxygenated blood throughout the body.

All parents should learn Adult, Child, and Infant CPR. Adult to help spouse & friends; Child to help children; and Infant to help grandchildren.

According to the Sure Fire CPR website, 15 minutes of CPR training can burn 165 calories (and I would assume that's not 15 minutes of continuous compressions, but the whole team approach with cycling).. Couple that with the extra carrying and moving you would be doing on a scene, and that number could certainly be higher.

For AED pad placement, remember the saying "White upper right, red to the ribs". These are the locations on the patient; one pad goes on the upper right of the chest; the other pad goes on the lower left side of the abdomen, on the ribs. It used to be the pad leads were white and red which denotes the location based on the color of the leads. Now, all the pads have icons on them which show the pad location upper right and lower left. For a child, it may require the pads located on the front of the chest, and on the back due to the size of the chest vs. the size of the pads. See the related link for examples.

Check for a pulse; if no pulse resume CPR. The AED will reanalyze in 2 minutes.
