Dry socket is a layman's term for alveolar osteitis. The alveolus is the part of the jawbone that supports the teeth, and osteitis means simply "bone inflammation". It is a post-operative complication of tooth extraction. It occurs when the newly formed blood clot in the extraction site is prematurely lost or disrupted or doesn't form correctly and hence there is a delay in the normal healing process. Alveolar osteitis is a painful phenomenon that most commonly occurs a few days following the removal of mandibular teeth.(usually third molar) To avoid this, do not smoke or use contraceptives (oral contraceptive extractions should be performed during days 23 through 28 of the tablet cycle), don't drink through a straw, dont spit or rinse too much, and maintain good oral hygiene and keep the area clean with a soft tooth brush. Mine only lasted about 12 hours, it was done by the time I went to bed that night. The pain was not bad at all, I was eating the same day. I kept trying to talk to my parents, but then I realized that the bleeding would never stop if I kept opening my mouth. The most important thing is to keep an almost constant pressure on the gauze so that it will help the bleeding stop and to change the gauze every 30 minutes or so. Well in my country the dentist will get some cotton bands and then put some anesthesia then she will put it in your gums after that she will give you a shot in your gums about two times then she will just try too pull it out...but in U.S i think she will just give you a shot i dont really know because i havent been in the dentist here but i might go to the dentist here in U.S because my mom might send me because im going to show her my teeth one of my tooth hurts so yeah...hope this helps

Third molars, especially in the mandible (lower jaw) are often found in states of impaction, therefore often necessitating bone removal by the oral or maxillofacial surgeon during extraction. Your wisdom teeth are flat and are used for grinding. Evolutionists believe that our ancestors used them to grind and eat hard grains and seeds. Since modern mankind mainly eat vegetables and meats and often cook their foods, it is thought that they have receeded as they are not needed anymore. I should add that it is not the wisdom teeth as such that is the victim of evolution.
