Do dwarf puffer fish eat goldfish?

They might eat the fry, but most fish will eat the fry. My dwarf puffer lives with a school of tetras and has never caused them any problems. Goldfish get big by comparison and are fiercely competitive for food. It is much more likely that the puffer is in danger of starvation by domination of the goldfish.

What does a goldfish in its life?

It depends really, in clean tanks and with proper feeding it can live years. If you forget about it then it won't last very long. But an average goldfish will not live past at the most of 2.5 years of age. If you have more than one goldfish it varies because one might eat the other(s).

How big are baby Betta fish?

It depends on the species. Wild type Betta Splendens and similar wild Bettas like smaragdina, imbellis and mahachai weigh approximately 1.2 grams

Domestic veiltail and halfmoon Splenden types are around 1.9grams while the new Giant strains of Betta Splendens are 8.8 grams approximately.

The weights will vary from fish to fish as well as depending on when they were fed last so this only a general idea of weight.

How many gallons are in a fish tank 36.25 inches long and 12.5 inches wide?

Multiply 36*12*16 = 6,912 cubic inches

12*12*12 = 1729 cubic inches per cubic feet

6912 cubic inches/1729 cubic inches per cubic feet - 4 cubic feet

4 cubic feet * 7.48051948 gallons per cubic foot = 29.90 gallons

7.48051948 Gallons per cubic foot

Why is goldfish turning sideways?

If your goldfish is swimming upside down, that probably means it has swimbladder disease or something of the sort. To cure this, I suggest you feed your upside-down swimming goldfish the insides of boiled peas. I never tried it myself, but on the internet I saw the story of a person who fed his upside-down swimming goldfish some peas and the next day it was swimming normally! Try it! It will cure constipation too. But if your goldfish is floating upside down, there is a high possibility it is dead. Poke it or fish it up with a net. If it moves or thrashes around when you pick it up in a net, then it is alive.

Do goldfish eyes grow back after being eaten by another fish?

No they do not. Goldfish can regrow fins just as you and I can regrow hair or finger nails and also like us they can not regrow organs like eyes

Why would a fish swim sideways?

== == Your goldfish most likely has a swimbladder disorder/disease. This happens when the swim bladder, a gas filled organ that controls the fish's bouyancy by inflating or deflating, is unable to control itself and causes the fish to either stay at the bottom of the tank, float helplessly at the top, bob-around head first at the bottom, swim on its side, or swim upsidedown. A swimbladder problem can be caused by consipation, bacterial infection, poor water quality, physical damage to the swim bladder, or physical deformity of the swim bladder. This condition is sometimes hard to treat because its often hard to diagnose the cause before its to late. The first step to take with a fish that has a swim bladder disorder is to test the water quality of your tank. It is usually a good idea to move the affected fish into a 5-10 gallon hospital tank for observation/treatment to ensure that the other fish do not become sick also. A good first act of treatment for an unknown cause of a swim bladder disorder is to try feeding the fish a shelled thawed or cooked unsalted green pea (the green pea is a laxitive and will relieve your fishes swimbladder problem if it is constipated). If this does not help you may want to start the fish on a antibacterial medication. Do frequent water changes at this time because having good water quality will offer relief for the affected fish. Also lower the tanks levels so that is is about 1/2-2 inches above the fishes dorsal fin (this reduces pressure on the swim bladder causing the fish much relief). If the fish looks swollen that is often either the beginning stages of dropsy or a sign of constipation. If dropsy is suspected than you would want to start the fish on antibacterial medicated food soon! Often fish do not recover from a bacterial infection of the swim bladder. Bacterial infections will usually result in dropsy- which is almost impossible to cure.

How long does it take for a goldfish to grow to full size?

It depends on what happened to the fins. If they have been bitten off by another fish, it will take time but it can regrow but if it was a fungal infection then it is unlikely to regrow at all.

To help with regrowth try using melafix or maybe put in an anti fin rot med in the water just in case.

What type of fishes can live in a 10 gallon tank?

anything that does not grow beyond 1.5 inches in length.

a ten gallon aquarium can support about ten inches worth of fish.

What is a power filter for fish tank?

It depends what filter you have.... you can have external filters, internal filters, biological filters, canister filters and mechanical filters..... but basically water gets sucked up through a pipe and cleaned by being pushed through meshes, catridges, sponges..... then goes out through enough pipe and returned back into the aquariam.

Why do your goldfish sit at the bottom of the tank?

I believe it is perfectly fine, especially when the fish origionally has a shy nature. It is probably afraid of you. You might want to put in some aquarium plants or things like that so it can hide in those.

If the end they are huddling at is a different temp than the rest of the tank, that may have something to do with it, too. Check that out. Also, if there is something in the tank that is harassing them, they may be trying to avoid it.

What is the best kind of fish for a fish bowl?

No fish is best for a bowl, buy at-least a one gallon tank with filter, and you will clean it once every 2 to 4 weeks, a bowl will have to be cleaned every week. Also, your fish can swim better with more room, become less bored, and will be happier. If this is above your budget, fish is not for you.

How often do you feed Goldfish?

you should only feed it once a day unless it gets really huge (like mine did) and if it gets huge you should feed it atleast twice a day

Goldfish should not be fed everyday, goldfish do not have stomaches and have a very poor digestive system....when they eat this means the food will just pass straight through and of course will leave its back end into the water. They are basically swiming around in their toilet.

They may seem gutsy but they will eat and eat as much as you give them. This will then contaminate the water and may kill your fish.

Goldfish can go 2 weeks without feeding.....so feeding them everyday is way to much, especially if the tank is small. Feed them every other day at the most.

Why do fish float upside down when they are dead?

While this is not always true, the reason this happens is that when the fish dies the gasses from the bacteria feeding on the now deceased fish begin the build up inside the fish, thus causing its belly to become lighter than the rest of its body and turning it upside down.

What other fish can you mix with your comet goldfish besides goldfish and koi?

Similar sized goldfish and their variants (golden orfe, etc) should be okay as should other carp species and tench. Just make sure all the fish are getting their share of food and there are no major size differences. Sturgeon are often kept alongside koi at retailers so I would imagine they are fine, too.

Can a salamander eat goldfish?

Frogs can eat commercialized pellets and feed sold in pet stores, but by nature they're scavengers and hunters. They will eat what they can find, but are primarily carnivores. In fact, most frogs can't really see their food unless it's moving right in front of them and their sense of smell isn't really a reliable method to find food like pellets, flakes, etc. Because of this, many frogs in pet stores are rather thin and unhealthy.

They will always prefer live feed resembling what they would eat in nature - worms (earthworms, bloodworms, tubifex, blackworms, etc) and insects; it's healthier for them to eat live foods. You should not feed them these things found in the wild as they may be contaminated with pesticides or organisms harmful to your frog. Most of these can be found in your average pet store, either live or frozen. It's easier (and cheaper) to find the freeze-dried forms of these foods but keep in mind that they do not contain as many nutrients, are a little more difficult to feed to your frog, and can cause bloating as freeze-dried foods absorb water and expand in your frog's belly. You can pre-soak the freeze-dried food prior to feeding to avoid this.

How do you save a dying fish?

It can be hard to watch a fish die. Repeated studies have shown that fish do feel pain. Anyone who has owned fish for a while soon learns they are animals with individual personalities, likes, dislikes, and some even show an affinity for contact with people.

If a fish is dying and you think there might be a chance it could live, try doing a water change and adding an airstone to provide the fish with extra oxygen. Be sure it is not suffering from disease by looking for signs of abnormalities such as white spots, fluffy patches, red streaks in fins or body, or parasites clinging to the fish, among others. If any of these signs is present, do research on the symptom and how to treat it.

If all else fails and you feel your fish is beyond hope, there is always euthanization. There are several ways this can be done, but many of these methods are cruel as it takes a long time for the fish to die. Freezing a fish is long thought to be a humane method, but when you freeze a fish, the cells burst and cause a slow, painful death.

By far the best method is to use Clove Oil. It is recommended to use about 25 drops per litre of water. Do not worry about overdosing, because this is what you want. Add it to a container of fresh water and place the fish inside. It may take awhile, but the fish will simply go numb and go to sleep.

The second most humane method is decapitation. If the fish is small and you can bring yourself to do it, lay the fish on a hard surface, and with a very sharp knife, make a quick, clean stroke through its head.

Hopefully, this will prove unnecessary in most cases, but when it happens, it is good to know what to do. Everyone has fish die at some point, but don't get discouraged! Fishkeeping is a fascinating hobby that can provide you a lifetime of enjoyment.

How often should you change the water in a small tank with one goldfish?

If you have a tanks the size of a cereal box long, and the height of one tall, (which is the average), with a filter, than every 3-4 weeks. if you do it at the beginning of every month, then you would be on a better schedule. try getting a fish that eats algea. (or however you spell it)

What if your goldfish has blood near its fins?

Find out how it is getting hurt. Is another fish biting it? Is it possible that it got caught in your water filter? When you find out how it got hurt, change things so that it can´t happen again.
