Macbeth

Hairstyle, like costume, is a matter of choice for the director. In the time of Garrick, Macbeth was played as a contemporary 18th century gentleman with a periwig. He is often shown in contemporary settings as having a short military haircut because he is a soldier, and Lady Macbeth has a hairstyle appropriate to the socialite she aspires to be. In the nineteenth century, when many directors were obsessed with the historical setting, the hairstyles were what people expected eleventh cetury Scotsmen and women to look like: the men had long hair and shaggy beards and the women wore their hair in braids that went down to their knees.

Image and Irony are some examples of figurative devices on Macbeth, a playwright by William Shakespeare. In this line by a lady in Macbeth for example says: 'The raven himself is hoarse, the croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan' in which the word raven suggests a sensation in fixing the hones of those people who had been enforced and Duncan is going to his fate.

Hecate wants the witches to create a magical potion to deceive Macbeth and lead him to his downfall. She wants them to use their powers to manipulate Macbeth into feeling overconfident and secure, which will ultimately result in his defeat.

His vaulting ambition to become "King hereafter" and sustain this by any means necessary. Macbeth chooses violence as an easy way out which progresses into a chain reaction of murders. These murders are pivotal points in the demise of Macbeth.

A banquet at which nobles entertained guests is typically a lavish and formal meal where elaborate dishes and entertainment are provided. It is a social event where the host demonstrates their wealth and status by providing extravagant food, music, and hospitality to their guests.

The witches told Macbeth to beware Macduff, that no man born of a woman can harm him, and that he will not be defeated until Birnam Wood moves to Dunsinane Hill. These prophecies led Macbeth to believe that he was invincible.

A banquet server is responsible for setting up banquet events, serving food and beverages to guests, clearing tables, and ensuring that guests have an enjoyable dining experience. They may also assist with cleaning up after the event and following proper food safety procedures.

In Act I Scene 3 they do not so much bring messages as hail him by three titles, one of which he knows he has, the second which he has but does not yet know it, and the third which will happen in the future. It is this last one which causes the trouble.

Probably its pointlessness. Macbeth accomplished nothing by killing Macduff's family. They were no threat to him, and killing them only made Macduff more angry and determined to have revenge. It also involves the killing of children. Then, as now, crimes against children are considered among the worst. The play is full of images of the murder of children: the finger of the birth-strangled babe, the baby whose brains would be dashed out by Lady Macbeth, Fleance, on whom a murder attempt is made, and Macduff's son who bravely puts up a fight against the "shag-eared villain". The Macbeths represent an attack on the future generation by the present, as unnatural child-killers. Macduff, on the other hand is a son who has killed his mother (mothers invariably died after a ceasarian birth at that time).

One example of apostrophe in Macbeth is when Macbeth addresses the dagger before him, saying "Thou marshall'st me the way that I was going." Another example is when Lady Macbeth cries out to the spirits to "unsex" her and fill her with cruelty. These instances show characters speaking to objects or abstract concepts as if they were living beings.

The three weird sisters (oftentimes referred to as the three witches) are the first characters to appear on stage.

You talk about it as if it were a historical event. It is not. The only answer to "When did Lady Macduff die?" is "In Act Four scene two."

The main use of the word "therefore" in Shakespeare is to mean "therefore", which is just what you would expect, since he was writing in Modern English. There is an interesting line in Midsummer's Night's Dream where Demetrius says to Hermia:

"And if I could, what should I get therefore?"

Sometimes this is spelled "What should I get therefor." Either way, it means, "what should I get for it," or "what should I get as a result", or "what should I get as a consequence". "As a consequence" is the same as the ordinary meaning of therefore, and one can easily imagine Hermia responding, "If you could, I would therefore give you a privilege never to see me more."

Lady Macbeth's descent into madness, exhibited by her sleepwalking scene in which she is plagued by guilt and cannot wash the metaphorical blood from her hands, is a prominent example of insanity in Macbeth. This descent is a result of her role in plotting King Duncan's murder and the subsequent violence that unfolds.

It is all death and madness and "gouts of blood" flying. Act 5 starts with Lady Macbeth's sleepwalking scene. Shakespeare then alternates scenes from inside the castle with scenes of Malcolm and the approaching army. Finally the army throws down its "leafy screens" and battle commences, culminating in the death of Macbeth and the proclamation of Malcolm as king.

"Your highness' part is to receive our duties, and our duties are to your throne and state, children and servants, which do but what they should, by doing every thing safe toward your love and honour."

He says, "Will all great Neptune's ocean wash this blood clean from my hand? No, this my hand will rather the multitudinous seas incarnadine, making the green one red." Basically, if he tried to use all the water in the ocean, he would make the ocean red with the blood and still be bloody himself. There are two figures of speech at work here. One is called hyperbole--extreme exaggeration. Of course all the water in the ocean will be more than enough. The other is metaphor. The blood is a metaphor for Macbeth's guilt, which cannot be washed away no matter how hard he tries. It's not about the real blood--that is easy enough to wash away.

Macbeth has always had control of his own fate, his hunger for power soon turned against him. The weird sisters put thoughts and predictions into his head, ones that made him crazy. He felt insecure and felt that he HAD to kill King Duncan to become King. In some way, the weird sisters were part of this 'fate'. But he created his own fate by letting his own greed for power rule his decisions and actions.

The witches create a mysterious and foreboding mood with their supernatural presence and cryptic prophecies. Opening with this scene sets the tone for the rest of the play, foreshadowing the turmoil and dark events to come. It also introduces the theme of fate versus free will, as their prophecies spark Macbeth's ambition and drive his actions throughout the play.

In Act 3 of "Macbeth," manhood is equated with a lack of fear during the scenes where Macbeth orders the murder of Banquo and Lady Macbeth criticizes his wavering resolve. However, the play also portrays the consequences of unchecked ambition and the erosion of one's humanity in the pursuit of traditional notions of manhood.

After Duncan's death, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth's relationship deteriorates as guilt and paranoia consume them. Macbeth becomes more isolated and ruthless in his pursuit of power, while Lady Macbeth descends into madness as she struggles to cope with their actions. Their once close partnership crumbles under the weight of their shared crime, revealing a profound shift in dynamics and trust between them.

Macbeth becomes jealous of Banquo because he feels threatened by the witches' prophecy that Banquo's descendants will be kings, leading Macbeth to fear that Banquo's lineage will jeopardize his own power and position as king. Macbeth's increasing paranoia and ambition drive him to eliminate Banquo and his son in order to secure his hold on the throne.

The quote "All's well, I dreamed last night of the three weird sisters" is from Shakespeare's play Macbeth. Macbeth says this line in Act 3, Scene 4 to Lady Macbeth after seeing the three witches (weird sisters) in his vision. It reflects his troubled state of mind and foreshadows the tragic events that will unfold in the play.
