That is true but anyone knows that, I think the lad wanted to know the cultural differences and why they fought each other. Well, for one the Mexicans were Catholic and the Texan's were Protestant (It may seem like a strange reason for war, but look back at the Hundred Year war in the Medieval times, they fought over it.).
