Is a placenta and a womb the same thing?
No. The womb is your uterus. The placenta is what attaches the baby to the umbilical chord and provides the baby with nutrients. During labor the female will expel the placenta after the baby is delivered.
How waste and products transferred after the placenta is formed?

What is one adaptation of placenta helping the rate of diffusion?

You're welcome because you don't have to read aye? xD
Why IgM do not passes through placenta in pregnancy?
This is because their is no receptor to facilitate IgM on the placenta. IgM is too big is a common, and wrong misconception.
At what gestational age does the umbilical cord start working?
The umbilical cord begins developing 6 to 12 days after conception when the blastocyst becomes three separate layers, the placenta, the umbilical cord / amniotic sac and the baby - when this happens the zygote drops into the uterus, attaches to the uterine lining and officially becomes an embryo.
The developing placenta trigers the hCG level to rise and within a week it reaches a level high enough to confirm the pregnancy.
Why immunoglobulin G alone can cross placenta?
IgG is an immunoglobluin monomer, meaning that it is one immunoglobulin that is small enough to cross the placenta. An example would be the Rh antibody that causes isoimmunization between Rh negative mothers and Rh positive fetuses. In constrast, ABO blood group immunoglobulins are IgM which is a pentamer, meaning it is composed of 5 immunoglobulins and is too large to cross the placenta.
Can the umbilical cord detach before birth?
That is the preferred way for babies to be born. The end of the umbilical cord that is attached to the baby obviously comes with the baby. Once the baby is safely delivered you go into stage 3 of labor, your uterus starts clamping down and you may feel a slight urge to push. Usually the placenta comes out intact with the "other end" of the cord attached to it.
Your doctor or midwife will examine the placenta to make sure there are no tears or pieces missing and they will check the umbilical cord to see that there are 3 blood vessels. (occasionally there are only 2 cord vessels).
A condition called placenta previa means the placenta is coming first or is blocking the baby's exit, a condition called Placental abrupture means the placenta is pulling away from the uterine wall before the baby is delivered. Either of the conditions are reason for an emergency c /section when a woman shows up at the hospital.
A woman who has a placenta previa generally bleeds frequently throughout the pregnancy so it usually diagnosed in the 2nd trimester. There is also a good chance that the placenta will move up off the cervix before labor starts, as the uterus grows.
What is a placenta formed from?
The placenta is developed during pregnancy from the implantation of a blastocyst. The blastocyst creates the outer layer of the placenta. This continues to developed into two more portions and then develops an outer protective layer. The placenta grows throughout the entire pregnancy.
What if umbilical cord comes off early?
If the cord does not fall off before baby's 1 month check - up, ask the pediatrician for advice.
Can pregnant women at 10 weeks use amoxycillin?
I know that in the US you don't need a prescription for antibiotics and that is crazy on my opinion since many use it when not needed and don't follow the instructions so they can become immune. You should never use it unless a doctor say so. Only he can tell if the infection is so serious you need it. Pregnant women can take antibiotics but it should be avoided. Clearly some conditions are worse if you don't take it than if you do.
Where can you feel the placenta pulsating?
Hi all :)
Well, I am not really sure it is a placenta (coz I question it myself) but for quite a while, being closer to the begining of the 3d trimester, I felt constant pulsating (like my normal pulse) in the area of my stomach - as far as I remember b4 I do not remember whether anything like that happening. So, I guess, it could be placenta. :)
Hope it helps.. though I need an answer on it mylself... :))
Good luck with ur pregnancies, ladies, and please eat well (more raw and freshly squised juices) coz ur babies are what u eat! :)
xx
How is placenta previa diagnosed?
Placenta previa can be detected during an ultra sound, but it is normal to have low-lying placenta early in pregnancy.
Could toxins pass through the placenta to the embryo?
Yes, it is possible for this to happen and it can result in fetal death, miscarriage or stillbirth. However, there are several control points in the placenta to help reduce this risk, including the barriers between maternal circulation and fetal circulation.
How would partial detachment of the placenta affect the fetus?
The process of rapture of placenta is known as placental abruption.
The following are the consequences :
What does a doctor mean by posterior placenta?
It means the placenta is located in the posterior wall of uterus
What does the baby receive from the umbilical cord?
The umbilical cord contains an artery and a vein, carrying the baby's blood between the baby and the placenta. This exchange removes toxins from the baby's blood and adds oxygen and nutrients from the mother's blood supply. Other substances such as drugs, alcohol and the breakdown components of smoking can also cross the placental barrier and be carried through the umbilical cord to the baby, with sometimes extremely serious consequences for the baby.
For that reason expectant mothers are told to stop smoking, to eat well and to avoid all medications and illegal drugs-before, if possible, during and after the pregnancy for the child's benefit. She should get the doctor's approval of any necessary medications during her pregnancy.
How soon after a placenta abruption can you get pregnant?
You should check with your Dr before becoming pregnant again. You are at a higher risk for it happening again if you've experienced it once.
What does the placenta do to help the foetus?
- Provides nourishment to your baby.
- Eliminates waste from your baby.
- Exchanges respiratory gasses with your baby, allowing it to breathe through you.
- Secretes various hormones such as chorionic gonadotropin, progesterone and estrogens that help regulate and maintain your pregnancy.
- Blocks some (but not all) harmful substances in your body from your baby.

What does it mean if you have two placentas and one baby?
I think you may have been pregnant with twins and for some reason the second baby didn't develop. You need an ultrasound and an obsetrician to ensure that the second placenta doesn't affect the blood flow to the growing baby. good luck joymaker rn
============================================
Sometimes a placenta can divide into 2 lobes. This is called a bi-partite placenta and can occur in a single pregnancy. At delivery, the midwife will check the placenta to ensure it is complete and no lobes have been left behind. A scan will sometimes be used to ensure all the placenta has been expelled. It doesn't mean that there was a twin pregnancy neccessarily. 3 lobes can develop - tri-partite placenta etc.
Can you be allergic to the placenta when you are pregnant?
Yes. You should only get medical advice from a licensed physician but the short version goes like this: If the mother has blood that is Rh-negative and her baby has blood that is Rh-positive, they have opposing molecules, known as antigens. If the mother has become what doctors call "Rh sensitized" then the antigens in her blood will cross through the placenta and "attack" the antigens in her baby's blood. Fortunately, Rh factors is something doctors have understood for a very long time and something any OB-GYN will check on. Today, because we have a specific drug to prevent sensitization, this rarely ever happens. This is a very complicated issue so be sure to talk to a OB-GYN for the best advice.
What does 'placenta Anterior mean in doctors notes after a pregnancy scan?
It means that your placenta is in the front of your uterus. This is not an issue in early pregnancy as the placenta usually moves as pregnancy progresses. If it is still anterior near end of pregnancy it can make you have to have a C-section. Also, it will be harder to feel the baby's kicks and movement as an anterior placenta cushions the baby from the tummy.
