Probability

The probability of a certain event is a number expressing the likelihood that a specific event will occur, expressed as the ratio of the number of actual occurrences to the number of possible occurrences. In mathematics, it is a measure of how often an event will happen and is the basis of statistics.

Why is it important that the scientific community use a standard set of units in measuring and recording data?

One of the fundamental requirements of any scientific theory is that experiments are replicable. This requires reuslts to be comparable which would be impossible if members of the community did not use the same units.

How many possible outcomes are there of tossing a coin 30times?

That's the same as the highest binary number you can write with 30 bits.

It's 230 = 1,073,741,824 .

When a fair coin is tossed 20 times in a row what is the probability that heads comes up 10 times in a row somewhere in the 20 tosses?

The probability of 10 heads in a row is (0.5)10 = 0.000977 = 0.0977% .

It makes no difference what has come before or what comes after.

Is a stratified sample a probabilty sample?

Within each stratum it is, but overall, it is not.

What is the probability of 6 green marbles?

We can't answer that without knowing what else is in the bowl.

What is the probablity of rolling a number greater than 2 on one roll of a die?

Let say the dice has n sides

Let first search for the probability to roll a number less or equal to 2

Probability to roll a 1 = 1/n

Probability to roll a 2 = 1/n

Probability to roll a 1 OR a 2 = Probability to roll a 1 + Probability to roll a 2

= 1/n + 1/n = 2/n

Probability to roll a number greater than 2 = 1 - (Probability to roll a 1 OR a 2)

= 1 - 2/n = (n-2)/n

If n = 6 then the result is (6-2)/6 = 4/6 = 2/3

Can T H C be distilled?

I've never heard of it but i have thought about it before. i mean it can be vaporized so im sure it can be condensed. the confusing part is that it is a solid. i came up with a design and that would be to hook up a THC vaporizer to a bottle filled with everclear. put the hose from the vaporizer in the bottle, so the vaporized THC would bubble up through it. you would have to make sure the alcohol is cold enough to condense it quickly. then evaporate the alcohol and you would have somewhat pure THC (i believe its a white powder when its pure.) using this method you can eliminate the other substances that are alcohol soluble but don't vaporize.

What are the chances of getting hit by a tree?

Zero, or, actually, so close to zero that for all practical purposes you can consider it to be zero.

A standard dice is rolled 10 times withthe out come 2 1 3 2 5 1 0 in this order you can you make it where it is less or equal to 8?

The lowest number I can roll on a die is 1.

In ten rolls, that's a minimum of ten; I cannot make it 8 or less.

Zero is a foul throw.

Flip a coin 10 times tails on the 10th?

The result of the tenth toss is usually independent of the previous nine so the probability is 0.5.

Solutionsn of Moment-generating functions?

Your question did not identify one distribution in particular. I have provide in the related link the moment generating functions of various probability distributions.

What is the relevance of probability and statistics in the field of information technology?

In the field of IT you are dealing with probabilities all day long. How long will the hardware last, how can you keep the signal for the network strong all over the building, how will adding a new group of computers impact the network, or heaven forbid your network come under attack and you need to keep damage to a minimum while fending off the attack. IT professionals think in probabilities. They're always running scenarios through their heads to come up with and fix problems before they occur.

Why 1 is one and 2 is two?

They are simply convenient notations. In fact, in binary, 10 is two.
