How high can wild turkeys fly?
We have had a flock of 15 turkeys in our yard every day for at least three weeks. Today something startled them and they were instantly airborne and cleared pine trees that are about 50 feet high and only about 50 yards from where they took off. They are large birds with a couple males probably weighing 18 pounds or more with 10 inch beards.
They are quite tame and they come right up to me when I go out to spread shelled corn on a cement patio. They have right up on our attached deck and look through our door wall in the family room.

Why are there two yolks in a turkey egg?
Turkey eggs are usually used for reproduction, being somewhat rarer than chicken eggs. Double yolked eggs, however, are not viable, and so can be sold for cooking because they are useless for making new turkeys. 1 Tell one possible reason turkeys are called turkey?
Have you ever wondered what Turkey (the country in the Middle East) and the American bird have in common? A case of mistaken identity resulted in the American Turkey being named after the country. When the Spanish first found the bird in the Americas more than 400 years ago they brought it back to Europe. The English mistakenly thought it was a bird they called a "turkey" so they gave it the same name. This other bird was actually from Africa, but came to England by way of the Turkey (lots of shipping went through Turkey at the time). The name stuck even when they realized the birds weren't the same.
