Can white vinegar expire?

When a bottle of vinegar is opened, the mother of vinegar may develop. It is considered harmless and can be removed by filtering. Colloquially-collected knowledge recommends an expiration or shelf-life date of 12-18 months, although no reference explicitly states its toxicity. Various records can be found warning of decomposition of flavoring elements, such as whole leaves, prepared in the vinegar.

Though I'm not sure what the deal is when the bottle hasn't been opened. I think it's almost always okay to use, just may taste a little funny after a while (that's plain white vinegar, not with added leaves/etc)

Why does a gummy bear expand the most in vinegar?

A gummy bear expands in water because of the substance it is made of. The jellylike material is sweet but absorbs water extremely well. Small pockets of air form in the jelly then quickly fill up with water because of its porous design. Hence the expanding jelly bear. Its really cool, so go try it at home! How much vinegar do you put in a baking soda volcano?

Why does the vinegar eat the eggshell?

Because the acetic acid in the vinegar reacts with the solid calcium carbonate crystals that make up the eggshell, separating them into their calcium and carbonate parts, the calcium ions floats free and the carbonate makes the bubbles (carbon dioxide) that you can see on the egg. The protein that binds the calcium and carbonate is the froth that you can see on the top.

Why does vinegar blow up when you add baking soda?

The neutralization reaction between the sodium bicarbonate which is the baking soda and the acetic acid in the vinegar results in water and sodium acetate. Sodium acetate is a salt that is rather soluble in water, so it dissolves to form a clear solution.

Which liquid evaporates faster nail polish remover or vinegar?

Is there sodium found in vinegar?

yes.
Distilled vinegar contains minute amounts of sodium chloride, commonly known as table salt. But the amount present is often in very small amounts compared to other types of vinegars, and would hardly affect the sodium intake if consumed as per normally.

When you mix vinegar and baking soda together why is it cold?

Baking soda and vinegar gets cold in a reaction called an endothermic reaction. Ectothermic reactions get warm, endo cold. All the heat is taken in by the baking soda and used as energy. If you add more baking soda, more baking soda will take in energy and make it colder.

Is vinegar a preservative?

Actually, lactic acid encompasses a vast array of species of bacteria. It is used in food production such as yogurt and sauerkraut, fermented foods, etc. It lowers the pH of the food/beverage thus preventing growth of other bacteria. It does occur naturally as a byproduct of strenuous muscle activity, however it is commonly created for industrial use by fermentation of corn.

What is vinegar solution?

Does pearl melt in vinegar?

If you put 5 grams of baking soda in with 10 grams of vinegar how many grams of carbon dioxide will be made?

There are 59.5 mmols of baking soda and 167 mmols of vinegar. The reaction of the two substances is NaHCO3(s) + CH3COOH(l) = CO2(g) + H2O(l) + Na+(aq) + CH3COO-(aq). This means the limiting reactant is baking soda, and 2.62 grams of CO2 is produced.

How do you remove mortar off of brick?

If the mortar which has dried upon the brick is a Portland Cement mortar there is no sure fire way to remove it. As a professional mason I tell my customers that we can reduce the degree of mortar staining but seldom can we eliminate it. We use Muriatic Acid mixed with water 1:10. That's 1 part muriatic acid to 10 parts water. You can buy Muriatic acid at most Home Improvement stores as it is commonly used in swimming pools. Wear chemical proof gloves and eye goggles. Use a mason's sponge, a stiff nylon brush and a good "putty" knife. Soak the dried mortar with the 1:10 mixture using the sponge. Scrub with the nylon brush. Use the putty knife to carefully scrape away anything larger than an "film". If this does not result in the removal increase the strength of the acid gradually but do not exceed 1:5. The acid will burn the brick if it is used too strong or left to sit on the brick too long. Have a bucket of clean water with a mason's sponge close at hand to neutralize the acid once your scrubbing has been completed. Be careful where the acid and water mixture is allowed to "run off". It will kill plants and harm most surfaces. Consult local codes before you attempt this method to determine where you can safely dispose of the mixture.

What does the vinegar means?

Vinegar is produced by acetic acid producing bacteria during the fermentation of wine, cider, or beer, and is used as a condiment or for pickling.

Can you make a vinegar and baking soda powered inboard motor boat?

yes

, because the vinegar and baking soda create pressure. You can create an 'Otto Cycle' motor - works just like a car's motor, except that instead of ignition, you would need to introduce the materials into the reaction chamber. All that's needed is a small enough amount of the two reactants, which would then push a piston. Once the reaction is done, you would need to remove the excessive water and co2 vapor. This would be done by opening valves. In most motors a flywheel is used to mechanically get the motor moving.

I have searched for this, but have not seen it done.

Thanks, Moshe

Is vinegar an antibacterial?

Yes, baking soda is antibacterial. The component that makes it antibacterial is sodium bicarbonate. It is also an antimicrobial and antifungal.

How dangerous is mixing vinegar and bicarb?

Vinegar is an acid and sodium bicarbonate is a base. The acid reacts with sodium bicarbonate causing the release of carbon dioxide gas. The water is probably only there to dilute the other reactants, to make it less vigorous.
