It is impiled in book 8 that they are still alive, but that hypothesis is disproved in book 10, where the siblings fail to find a parent in the Mortmain Mountains. In book 9, the siblings try to preapare an escape vehicle to go to the Mortmain Mountains, but get stopped once again by Count Olaf.

The first book in A Series of Unfortunate Events focuses on the three Baudlaire orphans, whose parents are believed to be dead after their mansion was burned down. They are sent to live with their distant relative, Count Olaf. Count Olaf treats them horribly. He actually attempts to marry the eldest orphan to obtain their vast fortune. However, minutes before his plan was completed the very intelligent orphans find a way to expose his plan to the public, saving the children, but allowing Olaf to escape.

As for underlying themes in the book, greed is a huge factor in Count Olaf's character. His greed leads him into harrassing and torturing people just so he can get rich. Besides greed, altruism also has a role in the story. The orphans meet a lady who is very generous. She sympathizes with them and wants them to be happy. Then there is also to orphans themselves who symbolize goodness and intelligence. Overall, I would say that Snicket is trying to tell us that if we use our creativity and kindness, no matter what kind of horrible situations we are put in, we can find the good in everything.

The question is never fully answered and remains a mystery. From what I have read it is revealed in the autobiography that Beatrice (the woman Lemony Snicket loves and is always talking about) is in fact their mother. Another book came out called the Beatrice Letters which also includes some clues as well. However I don't think the question is ever answered.

The Bauldelaire children are sent to the village V.F.D. They are forced to do many chores and follow the most stupid rules you can imagine. Of course, Count Olaf find them and frames them for murder. They must sneak out of the jail they are put in and find the Quagmires ( who are in the village). If you want to find out more, then read the book, it's very good.

Beatrice Baudelaire is the Baudelaires' mother and the woman who Lemony Snicket has been in love with. There were engaged but then Beatrice canceled the engagement and married another man instead.

Lemony Snicket is a character entwined in the storyline in more ways then one.

Lemony Snicket is not the real authors name, it is his pen name, and in the book series he has decided to have himself written in it. lemony Snicket researched and followed the lives of these children and isn't revealed until the end that he was once engaged to the Beudelare orphans mother.

He was then framed for Arson and thought to be dead, so the childrens mother remarried to their father. After lemony Snickets love of his lifes demise he decided to research and tell the tale of the children.

There is no year ... it's an alternate dimension. It seems like the early 1900s but it mentions advanced computers and so on. So you can really picture it in any time framed you like.
