To this writer seven thousand years would be an acceptable estimate.

What is the meaning of the Biblical story of Adam and Eve?
The story of Adam is in Genesis. Basicly the story of Adam is this: God created everything in the world, saw that there was one thing missing, and so made Adam from the dust of the earth. Then, Adam named all the animals and plants etc that God had made. But Adam was lonely, because there wasn't anyone like him. So God put Adam in a deep sleep and created Eve from Adam's rib. God told them not to eat of this certain tree, they did, God threw them out of their paradise and they were no longer immortal.
They had two kids, Cain and Able, Cain killed Able 'cause he was jealus, so he got banished, basicly. A while later they had another son, and named him Seth. After that they had lots of other kids, and Adam died when he was 930 years old.

How does the story of Adam and Eve point to a Savior?
One thought:
The account of Adam and Eve's disobedience to God explains the reason for our
NEED of a savior.
God created the earth for man (Acts 17:26)(Psalm 115:16). Adam and Eve had the prospect of everlasting life on a paradise earth(Genesis 1:28), but chose to listen to Satan, rebel and disobey their creator(Genesis 2:15-17)(Genesis 3:1-7)(Genesis 3:17-19), becoming IMperfect and thereby bringing sin and death to any descendants they might have (Romans 5:12)(Job 14:4). The first prophecy in the Bible spoke of God's correcting this problem by sending someone (a 'messiah' or 'anointed one')who would ultimately destroy the instigator. The devil.(Genesis 3:15) In the meantime, sin is deadly (Romans 6:23) and costs dearly, bringing pain and suffering to all mankind. This "messiah" would first be needed to balance the scales of justice, "pay the ransom" and make the ultimate sacrifice (John 15:13)(John 10:11)(Ephesians 5:2), which was pre-figured through the Mosaic Law and it's sacrifices (Hebrews 9:1-10:10). This 'messiah', a perfect man (as Adam had been), faithful and obedient, would be sent to replace Adam who'd sinned(1 Corinthians 15:22,45+47), life for life (Exodus 21:23-25)(Isaiah 53:1-12) . In the eyes of Christians, Jesus was this 'Christ'(Messiah), and savior of faithful mankind.(Matthew 16:16)(1Timothy 2:5+6; Ephesians 1:7)(Isaiah 59:2/Romans 5:11)(John 3:16). The account of Adam and Eve explains why his sacrifice was necessary.
Yes, Adam was saved by God. According to the apocryphal book of Sirach [aka Ecclesiasticus], Adam was blessed above all creation. He certainly seemed blessed, in being given a second chance to be happy and succeed outside of the Garden of Eden. Additionally, he became the ancestor to important, respected individuals, such as Noah, Moses, Abraham, and King David. The general Christian belief is of Adam's presence in Heaven, instead of Hell. Specifically, the Eastern Orthodox Church considers him a Saint, as one of the heavenly residents with God.
Why are Adam and Eve not cavemen?
Most likely because God wanted to show the world his superiority and power over us by making us smart and able to choose the right choice if we want to.
God made us in his image and since God obviously isn't a caveman we were created to be able to talk and have a higher intellegence over other animals like him. We were also given souls, which, I don't know if cavemen had souls or not. Also, I don't think God would make Adam and Eve so that they would not be able to communicate and have a relationship with him.
Was Eve temped by Dahak to eat the forbidding fruit?
In Genesis, Eve was tempted by an unnamed serpent, which has been presumed to be Satan.
Could Adam and Eve come back to the Garden of Eden?
Once Adam and Eve had eaten of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, they were they were now like gods (Genesis 3:22: "And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us..."), but had also become aware of their mortality.
The only difference between them and God (or the gods) was that they must die. By eating of the tree of life, they would then also be immortal. In genesis 3:24, God drove out the man and placed at the entrance to the Garden of Eden, cherubim and a flaming sword to keep [block] the way of the tree of life. In the Genesis story, Adam and Eve could not be allowed back, for fear they would eat of the second tree.
There is a distinct confusion in the question between personal beliefs or philosophies and actual facts of science. In any case, if the evolutionary time-scale is correct then there was no creation in around 4000 BC and of course if creation is correct then there was no such thing as cro-magnon man at least in terms of the time-scale. What needs to be understood is that all ancient finds are interpreted according to a particular philosophy of human origins. Thus the remains of cro-magnon man, the Neanderthal remains etc are all interpreted according to long-age evolutionary time scale. Cro-magnon man could well have lived within the young earth time scale as undoubtedly did Neanderthal man. What needs to happen is for people to take all the evidence into account, including the evidence given by a God who was there and who cannot lie and who testifies about the early history of the earth. Of course people committed philosophically to naturalism will defend their personal beliefs and ignore any and all evidence against it. They will also attempt to stifle and censure alternative views (see the documentary 'Expelled'). However, there need be no conflict between the facts that are discovered and the history of the earth as described in the Bible. Thus, as the question speaks of a conflict in dating between two opposing world views one needs to look at the 'big picture' an realize where the true weight of evidence lies.
The to the question can be found in the Bible.
There are only two man created by God that had/have his likeness and image, i.e. Adam and Jesus Christ, written in the Bible.
We may say that we, mankind has the image of God but not the likeness of God.
What is to be like God. To be like God is to have the Will that wills the Will of God. God is Universe, God is love of Universe. God is Will. To be like God is to be a divine being, having eternal life.
God commanded Adam, Genesis 2:17 KJV 17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. But after Adam and Eve ate the fruit they did not die physically though.
What died in Adam and Eve is their spiritual quality, that quality of being the likeness of God, being a divine being, having eternal life.
In the beginning, God made man his own image, Genesis 1:27 KJV 27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. But it is the desire of God to make man not only an image of himself but also a likeness of himself, Genesis 1:26 KJV 26And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:
In Genesis Chapter 1 God created man in his own image (Genesis 1:27) but not his likeness. In Genesis Chapter 2 God created a man in particular a man named Adam and God breath a life on him, an eternal life, making him a divine soul like God. Genesis 2:7 KJV 7And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Out of the mankind that God created in Genesis Chapter 1,the will of God to make a man his likeness was accomplished in Adam in Genesis Chapter 2. Then God made a Garden we know Eden and place Adam therein and commanded him not to eat the fruit of knowledge of good and evil otherwise on the day he ate the fruit he will surely die. But Adam disobeyed God's command. And because of his sin he was stripped of his spiritual quality of having divine soul, having eternal life, and being the likeness of God. This means that what God created in Adam was his spiritual body and not his physical body, which could be confirmed in Genesis 3:22 . 22And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: And God put a guard so Adam could not reach his hand to the Tree of Life and live forever again as he used to in the Garden of Eden.
The physical body of man was already done in Genesis Chapter 1 before Adam was created. The creation in Genesis Chapter 1 could have been done some time back before the creation of Adam in Chapter 2 and could be some million years back before chapter 2. So when Adam's name appeared in Genesis Chapter 2 there were already humans on earth created in Genesis Chapter 1.
Is the Garden of Eden located on earth now?
No. Every part of the earth has been mapped and photographed, and there is no Garden of Eden. In fact, Leon R. Kass (The Beginning of Wisdom: Reading Genesis) says that the Garden of Eden is a purely mythic place. There never was a Garden of Eden on earth.
What aspects of the human condition does the story of Adam and Eve account for?
One thought:

How far back does Adam from the Bible date?
No human has any way of telling how far back Adam was exactly. People say it was about 11000 years ago that the homo sapien first existed.
The historical position is that neither Noah nor Adam and Eve actually existed. The biblical position is that Noah was after Adam and Eve.
Who was Adam's and Eve's third son?
Seth was the third son of Adam and Eve. His birth was mentioned in Genesis 4:25. The couple would have rejoiced in the child's birth anyway. But they particularly rejoiced over God having given* them a son to replace the hardworking, kindly Abel. The younger Abel was killed by the couple's older son, Cain.
*The name 'Seth' resembles the Hebrew for 'has given'.
