Adam and Eve

The account of Adam and Eve is one of the world's best known creation stories. It also serves as the basis for three major world religions: Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Typical questions by contributors include the story's relationship to other religious writings, parallels with other creation stories, impacts on world art and literature, and collaboration by science.

What was Adams first wife name you n Genesis?

The Bible never says anything specifically about Adam having any wife other than Eve. To be fair, it also doesn't specifically and unambiguously state that he didn't, though certain passages in the New Testament do rather strongly imply it.

Occasionally Genesis 1:27 is taken to imply that the first woman was created at the same time as the first man. However, neither of them are given names at that point.

Starting around Genesis 2:7 the story "backs up" and fills in some of the details; as that passage continues, it becomes clear that the man was created first and the woman was created later. There's no particularly good reason within the text itself to believe that this section is anything other than an expanded version of Genesis 1:27.

In particular, since the passage in chapter 2 describes the creation of the first man again, it does not make a great deal of sense to assume that the man is the same man, but the women are different.

When are we responsible for our sins?

Were held responsible for our sins when there commited out of ignorince. Once we know the difference between right and wrong in God's eyes he's going to hold us responsible for our actions since he gave us free will.

Answer 2

I don't believe that we have total free will at all I believe that we are like dogs walking with our owners on retractable leads we can have free will so far then all of a sudden we have a sharp yanking pain round the neck and have to come back into the perameters of reasonable free will...We walk around with a brain that only uses a small proportion of it's capacity and is still vastly unexplored by science and in that fact I think that the human brain is a transmitter that God sends messages to to guide people through life and a certain amount is used by the person to use for the nuts and bolts of life like eating and sleeping...if a person really wants to impose his will for selfish and cruel satisfaction then he or she is using some self will but only what Gods allows them to" get away with" I feel that what we go through as human beings is as growing process that is preparing us for the next plain of existance...everybody that is affected by cruel self will ie murder of sexual abuse is on the "soul grow" journey that the grieving process makes us accomplish

Iam of the belief that nothing happens in God's world by accident

Who is Elohim the Hebrew god?

The two earliest anonymous authors known to have contributed to the writing of the Book of Genesis are now known as the Yahwist and the Elohist.

The Yahwist (J Source) always used Yahweh (YHWH) as the name for an anthropomorphic God with human characteristics, who made promises and covenants with his chosen people. The source's main interests were the southern kingdom, Judah.

The Elohist (E Source) always used Elohim as the name for a more transcendent God who required obedience and was feared by his people. This source came from the northern kingdom of Israel. The name Elohim is the plural of El, or 'god' in Hebrew, but when used with a singular verb or in a singular context, always referred to the Elohist's national God.

Do Catholics believe Adam and Eve were immortal?

Adam and Eve were not created with immortality. Immortality is defined as "deathlessness," and refers to the quality of life that is enjoyed, its endlessness and indestructibility. Adam and Eve died. They had the prospect of everlasting life, which was to be extended to them with their obedience to the life giver and life sustainer, Jehovah God.

How would life be different today if Eve didn't eat the fruit on the tree?

She did! Eve did eat from the tree of life first.

If they had eaten from the tree of life they would have lived forever...

There's a really great discussion about the tree of life and immortality at the following site:

Did Eve give Adam some of the fruit to eat?

Both Adam and Eve ate from the tree. In Quran, Muslims holy book, both Adam and Eve ate from the tree and accordingly both of them are held responsible of disobeying God (Allah) the Creator.

Can a man crush a woman's ribs in a bear hug?

No in that case each lady would be having fractured ribs.

What did Adam and Eve do to cover their shame once they sinned?

Adam and Eve made a huge mistake with eating from the tree of knowledge.

Although they were naked from the start, God made them aware of it.

So then, not only did they commit a sin by disobeying God, but they were now even more shameful for being naked. They hid from God to try and cover their sins.

Did Adam and Eve lie to god about eating the apple?

From Christian Perspective:YES From Islamic Perspective:

No, Adam and Eve were not cursed by God. They were only blamed. When they admitted they mistake, God allowed them to repent. They then repented and God has forgiven them.

Quran says (English meaning translation):

  • " ... Then Adam received from his Lord Words (see the other Quran verse below) and his Lord accepted his repentance. Verily , He (God) is the Most Merciful"

[Quran, chapter 2, verse 37]

  • "O Adam! dwell you and your wife in the Garden, and enjoy (its good things) as you wish: but don't approach this tree, or you run into harm and transgression." Then began Satan to whisper suggestions to them, bringing openly before their minds all their shame that was hidden from them (before): he said: "Your Lord only forbade you this tree, for not becoming angels or being alive for ever." And he swore to them both, that he was their sincere adviser. So by deceit he brought about their fall: when they tasted of the tree, their shame became manifest to them, and they began to sew together the leaves of the garden over their bodies. And their Lord called them: "Did I not forbid you that tree, and tell you that Satan was an avowed enemy to you?" They said: "Our Lord! We have wronged our own souls: If you (Allah) don't forgive us and don't bestow upon us your Mercy, we shall certainly be lost." (Allah) said: "Get both down with enmity between yourselves (mankind). On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood,- for a time." He said: "Therein shall you live, and therein shall you die; but from it shall you be taken out (at last)." [Quran, chapter7 (Surat Al-A'raf), verse 19 to 25]

Moreover, God already knew that Adam & eve would eat from the tree before they really did, in fact, God forbade Adam from eating from the tree as a test of Adam's obedience to God's commands, and to let Adam know his true enemy.

Quran says (English meaning translation):

"O Children of Adam! Let not Satan deceive you as he caused your (first) parents to go forth from the Garden and strip them of raiment to show them their private parts. Verily, he and his tribe see you from where you cannot see him. Verily, We (God) have made the devils protectors and helpers for those who believe not...And when they do some lewdness (going naked around al-Kaaba and every kind of unlawful sex) they say: We found our fathers doing it and Allah has commanded it on us. Say: Allah, verily, never commands Fahishah (evil deed).Do you say of Allah what you know not ?" [Quran, chapter 7, verse 27-28]

What part of the world was Adam and Eve born?

Answer 1

The Bible does not claim that Adam or Eve were born, but rather that they were directly created in the Garden of Eden. Depending on what tradition being considered, the Garden of Eden can be part of an ethereal or heavenly plane. In that case, there is no corresponding Earthly region for the Garden. There are other traditions that use the four rivers mentioned in the Genesis 2:10-14 (quoted below from the NIV) to give a rough area. The Pishon and Gihon are currently unknown, but the Tigris and Euphrates are primarily in the modern nations of Turkey and Iraq.

Genesis 2:10-14

10 A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. 11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx are also there.) 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush.14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

Who are the sons of Eve of the bible?

Abel and Cain were the sons of Eve (Genesis 4:1+2)

Also Seth (Genesis 4:25) and many more 'sons and daughters'(Genesis 5:3+4)(Genesis 2:24/Genesis 3:20)

Why Adam should be blamed for eating the forbidden fruit?

According to the book of Genesis, God told Adam that he could eat of any tree in the garden except the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Adam passed this on to Eve. Eve succumbed to temptation and ate anyway, and tempted Adam to eat. So, each should be blamed individually for giving in to their own temptations.

It's an allegory, an example of how people are still falling prey to their own temptations.

What were the first creatures created by God?

Birds and fish (Genesis ch.1).

Note:

The creation of birds is mentioned both in Genesis ch.1 and ch.2.

Rashi commentary (2:8) explains that Genesis ch.1 and 2 form a single set of events, as chapter 2 expands the narrative of ch.1 with further detail.

An attempt to split the text artificially has been perpetrated by people such as Wellhausen (the father of modern Biblical-criticism, 1844-1918) who suggested attributing the narrative to various authors, despite the Torah's explicit statement as to its provenance (Exodus 24:12, Deuteronomy 31:24). Wellhausen's claims have been debunked one by one, as archaeology and other disciplines have demonstrated the integrity of the Torah. No fragments have ever been found that would support his Documentary Hypothesis, which remains nothing more than an arbitrary claim, whose falsehood has been pointed out:

How was God made before Adam?

The Bible says that before even the earth was created, God created angels.(Job 38:4&7)

God also started creating the animals before mankind(Genesis 1:24-26) and then brought them to Adam to be named.(Genesis 2:19)

-------------------------------

Adam named all the animals except one, that was named by God: the whale.

How long did Adam and Eve live before the cavemen?

A:Scientists know that humans lived in caves (cavemen) hundreds of thousands of years ago, whereas the story of Adam and Eve is only set around six thousand years ago, as can be established by adding the generations ages of the biblical characters down through the ages. We also know that the cavemen were hunter-gatherers and knew nothing of farming, but the biblical Cain and Abel are portrayed as farmers. The ancient Hebrews who first told the stories of Adam and Eve, and their sons Cain and Abel, knew nothing of hunter-gatherer societies.

Strictly speaking, one may not say that the cavemen came before Adam and Eve, or vise versa, because cavemen really did exist, whereas Adam and Eve were simply characters in the biblical story. However, if a comparison is required, the cavemen lived hundreds of thousands of years earlier.

Where did the females come from if Adam and Eve had only three sons?

The Bible dose not always show the names of daughters. However, what the Bible does tell us is that he had at least two daughters, although he may well have had more: 4And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:

Where did the word Adam's apple come from?

While Adam was eatingthe apple that Eve had given him, he heard the steps of God approaching. Frightened, he gulped down the apple which got stuck in his throat, causing this slight projection at the front of the throat. Since then, this is visible in man.

How do you know that Adam and Eve were the first people alive?

It is not possible to know that Adam and Eve were the first people alive. In fact, the distinguished biblical scholar, Raymond E. Brown, says that for parts of the story in Genesis 2:4b-3:24, Adam is not an individual male but a figure representative of humanity. In other words, the author of this story did not even intend it to be taken literally. The story of Adam has a number of strikingly similar predecessors in older civilisations in the Middle East. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the king was an oppressive ruler, so his constituents appealed to the gods, who create a nemesis, Enkidu. In some of the parallels with the later story in Genesis, Enkidu was created naked in the wilderness, and was tempted by a harlot, who educated him about sin and taught him to wear clothes.

How does Adam and Eve hear Gods voice?

(username: Octianaluz) I'm not sure, there could be a few ways that they could of heard Gods voice, one way could be through the natural way (our ears). Another way could be from their spirit (a feeling you get deep down inside that something is telling you to do or not to do something), and another way can be from an answered prayer that comes from something that they'er familiar with on getting answers by (example: if they prayed for fruit, God would bless them by having fresh fruit grow from the trees, if they prayed for it to rain, then it would start raining on a sunny day, or them praying for help to overcome a bad habit and God helping them by weakening their strong urge for something that's not good and them noticing it through time, etc.) These are just some examples as you already know, but however they was able to hear from God, is probably the same way we can hear him, whichever way that may be.

God spoke so they could hear Him.

Did you come from Adam and Eve or the apes?

We know that the story of Adam and Eve was only an allegory. We also know that our human ancestors lived on earth for millions of years before the time attributed in the Bible to Adam and Eve. That only leaves us to decide what our ancient ancestors were most like. Scientists say that we share a common ancestor with the chimpanzees, who lived about 7 million years ago.
