The Bible never says anything specifically about Adam having any wife other than Eve. To be fair, it also doesn't specifically and unambiguously state that he didn't, though certain passages in the New Testament do rather strongly imply it.
Occasionally Genesis 1:27 is taken to imply that the first woman was created at the same time as the first man. However, neither of them are given names at that point.
Starting around Genesis 2:7 the story "backs up" and fills in some of the details; as that passage continues, it becomes clear that the man was created first and the woman was created later. There's no particularly good reason within the text itself to believe that this section is anything other than an expanded version of Genesis 1:27.
In particular, since the passage in chapter 2 describes the creation of the first man again, it does not make a great deal of sense to assume that the man is the same man, but the women are different.

Another way could be from their spirit (a feeling you get deep down inside that something is telling you to do or not to do something), and another way can be from an answered prayer that comes from something that they'er familiar with on getting answers by (example: if they prayed for fruit, God would bless them by having fresh fruit grow from the trees, if they prayed for it to rain, then it would start raining on a sunny day, or them praying for help to overcome a bad habit and God helping them by weakening their strong urge for something that's not good and them noticing it through time, etc.) These are just some examples as you already know, but however they was able to hear from God, is probably the same way we can hear him, whichever way that may be.
