I know from a very recent guided tour in the Airbus Finkenwerder facilities, that an airbus 321 contains approx. 500.000 rivets. Accordingly I should suppose, that an A300 contains considerably more.

The difference between the low and high bypass turbofans is simply in the amount of air which goes into the engine versus the remainder that goes around (bypasses) the engine.

In high bypass engines ( an engine on any large commercial jet) only 20% around 20% of air goes into the engine with 80% bypassing it. (The 80% generates most of the engine thrust)

it is getting bad publicity right now but yes it is safe... if it was on 1 engine it could do a 8 hour trip and with no engines it cuold go 200 miles without losing altitude...WOAH!
