The Athlon 64 was the first 64-bit microprocessor aimed at regular consumers like you and me (as opposed to the Opteron which was AMD's first 64-bit CPU but it was intended to be used in Workstations and Servers).

Probably, but the answer really depends on your motherboard. Go to the motherboard manufacturer website and look to see what processors are compatible with your motherboard.....ummm can u give example of the sites?

I guess it is because Intel has built up a reputation with most companies, because they have been around longer. I think AMD is much better than Intel, much faster in my opinion.

This is an ongoing argument similar to which is better, PC or Mac. It depends on what your greatest need is. If it is more for gaming, multimedia applications and 3D graphics, then AMD, especially partnered with ATI graphics is a better choice as it was more designed for single PC usage and high end gaming. The downside is that the Windows OS does not receive a high rating for its Aero user interface, despite the fact it runs fine. But that might just be an illusive Microsoft little white lie.

On the other hand, if you run a network, require a PC with superior data processing and good disk management, Intel is the better choice as it has a higher stepping technology, although it is not directly affiliated with any company specializing in graphics, it is compatible with most cards. Try running either on Linux and you will know the truth.

No doubt that amd turion x2 is better than athlon x2. So, I would suggest you to go for turion. But I want to know if core 2 duo is better than the turion x2. Any suggestions.

It is better to use one more powerful processor for responsiveness. Consider this: you have two processors that process some transaction at a rate 1 transaction per second. They would process two transaction in one second each resulting in 1 second average response time and throughput of 2 transactions/sec. Now if you have another single processor that is twice as fast as the other two and it has to process the same two transactions then results will be a little different. It would finish the first transaction in 0.5 second and the the second in another 0.5 second resulting in the same throughput - 2 transaction/sec but 0.75 average response time.

And even then some Turion X2 processors may not be supported by the BIOS. The AMD Turion X2 TL-50 should be supported and should be free of heat issues as the dual core version of this laptop was shipped with this processor. I have read of users successfully upgrading to the AMD Turion X2 TL-58 and TL-64 without issue. However, that is not first hand knowledge on my part. I have the same laptop with the single core TL-20 and am about to upgrade to the TL-64.

If you are not planning to overclock your processor, then most any AM2 heat sink and fan will work. Do look on the package to verify it is rated for quad-core 2.5 Ghz. Some good brands are Thermaltake, Masscool, Cooler Master, and Zalman (listed from personal experience)
