Normally, you would have one player close to the ball, to stop a short corner, then you would have a player on the line at the front post, and one at the back post. Then depending on the team mentality, you would either have players man marking or zonal marking the attacking players in the box. You would also have your strikers and maybe a midfielder or two outside the box, anticipating a counter attack.

However, the state of the game will dictate how you defend. If you are a goal up with five minutes to go, it is likely that you will have all your players in the box defending.

Cheyenne East High School has, by far, the best record for women's soccer. East girls have won more state titles than any other team in Wyoming. Under Jim Gardner, the current coach, the team has made it to the state tournament every year and has been conference, regional, and state champions multiple times. East has multiple all-state players every year. East High's girl's soccer is truly umatched in the state. Many schools attempt to emulate the program, but never succeed.
