What is the difference between kangaroos and amphibians?

Kangaroos and amphibians belong to two different vertebrate groups.

  • Kangaroos are mammals with fur, and amphibians have moist skin.
  • Kangaroos are warm-blooded and amphibians are cold-blooded.
  • Kangaroos give birth to undeveloped live young which complete their development in a pouch. Almost all amphibians lay eggs, which undergo metamorphosis before the young become adults.

Do frogs have a pharynx?

A frog's digestive system obviously begins with its mouth. Although frogs have two sets of teeth in the buccal cavity, they do not use them to eat their prey. Frogs eggs, floating in water, are potential food for anything that can get to it. Therefore - if a frog lays hundreds of eggs, there's more chance of at least some of them hatching into tadpoles.

What group of organisms evolved from the same ancestors as amphibians?

According to the Theory of Evolution, all organisms have a shared ancestry.

Also, amphibian is a term that can be used to indicate a particular property (ie. coldblooded organism living both on land and in water) that may belong to groups of organisms stemming independently from divergent clades. Used in this sense amphibians are a paraphyletic group. The term amphibian can also be used to indicate a member of the clade Amphibia, a monophyletic grouping within cladistics.

The most recent ancestor common to Amphibia and Reptilia (which would include Mammalia, under the monophyletic usage) would have belonged to the clade of Tetrapoda. This means that both Amphibia and Reptilia (including Mammalia) are Tetrapoda.

Does an amphibian live in water?

Yes, because when frogs are tadpoles they need to be able to breath under water so they have gills and when they turn into frogs they still have their gills but they form lungs so they can breath on land.

Do toads eat each other?

What important adaptation allows a reptile to live and reproduce on land while an amphibian must return to water to reproduce and complete the life cycle?

Reptiles do not have a larval based reproduction. They are hatched (and in a few species live birth) already in the adult phase. Amphibians must go through metamorphose to get to their adult phase.

How do amphibians use positive pressure to draw air into their lungs?

When the frog opens its mouth, Air flows in because it's in the nature of gases to flow from high pressure to low pressure ( Air to mouth ). When the air is inside the mouth of the frog, it closes its nose trills ( to avoid the escape if any air trapped ) and closes its mouth. When nose and mouth are closed, the air is trapped inside the mouth. Then, the frog raises its jaw which presses the air inside the mouth towards the lungs, because again, air under higher pressure (in mouth) goes to a place where there's lower pressure ( the lungs ). This is positive pressure inhalation.

Then O2 is released from the air to the lungs, and CO2 is picked up. The frog then lowers its jaw, to lower the pressure in the mouth, to let the air travel from the lungs, to the mouth and into the outside,

hope that helped!

Do amphibians have moist skin and lay eggs without shells?
