He fought strongly to get the second bank of the US abolished.

He fought the doctrine of nullification espoused mostly by SC ,because he believed it would destroy the federal union if carred to its logical conclusion.

The tariff was the big impetus for SC's espousal of nullification. Jackson tried to find a compromise reduction of the tariff which would satisfy both sides, but he was not entirely successful.

Who was the vice president of Andrew Jackson and John Quincy Adams?

The U.S. Vice President during John Quincy Adams' term and most of Andrew Jackson's first term was John C. Calhoun. John C. Calhoun was the running mate of both John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson in the 1824 election, which is why he had enough votes to be elected while none of the presidential candidates did. In 1828 he ran only with Andrew Jackson; John Quincy Adams' running mate was Richard Rush. Also, John C. Calhoun was one of only two U.S. Vice Presidents to resign the office; Calhoun did so in December of 1832.

The Vice President during Andrew Jackson's second term was Martin Van Buren, one of only four people who served a full term as U.S. Vice President immediately before serving a full term as U.S. President.

How did Andrew Jackson get on the twenty dollar bill?

There is no good, justifiable reason as to why he was put on the twenty dollar bill ahead of other Presidents. He was the one who fought so hard to kill the nation bank and when he finally had it defeated, he decided to make it suffer. He is also responsible for the blatant genocide of thousands of native Americans. He openly deified a Supreme Court ruling (see Worcester v. Georgia) by send 7,000 troops to round up the natives and removed from this nation. He should have been impeached, but instead we put his face on a federal reserve (national bank) note. That's pure irony.

The "chosen class" was everyone and no one. Jackson himself was once poor, and therefore could sympathize with struggling Americans. During his presidency, classes became less-distinguished and the "common man" emerged as (in terms of "class") a middle-class industrial worker.

What was the major contribution President Andrew Jackson made?

Your question calls for a value judgment and so is really a matter of opinion, but I think his biggest contribution was to move the Presidency away from the old wealthy aristocratic establishment along the coast and to the people who had moved West, recently cleared land and endured the hardships of the frontier. He thus gave the common people more of a voice in the federal government. Andrew Jackson was also the father of our modern banking system and his Indian policy m made the the "Trail of Tears" possible which forced Native Americans to leave the East Coast and go to Oklahoma. Jackson also averted a civil war. South Carolina declared it had the power to annul federal laws, specifically an unpopular tariff. Jackson declared this an unconstitutional decision and his resolve held the South Carolina government at bay.

Why did Andrew Jackson get rid of the first central bank?

Jackson thought that under the Constitution, Congress had no authority to charter a National Bank. Further he saw evidence that the bank, which could make loans to individuals, engaged in political activity, making favorable loans to people in power in order to gain privileges for its officers. Consequently he pressured Congress to not renew its charter, which they did in 1832. However the charter was not set to expire until 1836. Rather than wait for the bank to "die a natural death" i, he ordered the Secretary of the Treasury to withdraw all federal funds from the bank in 1834 in order to hasten its demise.

Why do you think the spoils system was an acceptable practice?

I do not think that anyone thinks the spoils system is a good idea, surely not Jackson.

However he did think that 4 years was about the right time for a civil servant to keep his

job and public servants should be rotated, lest they become corrupt. Jackson became

president at a time when the previous party had been in power for a long time and so he

thought was time to "clean house'. He removed a lot of the old Republicans who thought

they were fixtures and their protests led to the charge that Jackson was in favor of the

spoils system.

(Nowadays, not so many governments jobs are filled by appointment- we have a civil

service systems that fill many lower jobs by merit on examinations, independent of the

president.)

Andrew Jackson did not have any children of his own.

He adopted one of the twin nephews of his wife, Rachel, for reasons that remain unclear. This son, Andrew Jackson, Jr(1808-1865) , became the heir of the Jackson estate. Andrew Jackson, Jr. would eventually sell the Hermitage to the State of Tennessee to pay off huge debts he had incurred. He continued to live there, rent free, until his death in 1865. His wife, Sarah Yorke , continued to live at the Hermitage until her death in 1888.

The Jackson's also adopted a young Creek (Native American) boy, Lincoya, whose parents had been killed by Jackson's troops in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. Lincoya died at the age of 16 of tuberculosis just a few months before his father was elected as president.
