Angels have different roles depending on the time in history, culture, and religion. They often carry the part as a spiritual messenger from God. They are sometimes viewed as protectors, and other times as avengers. It is believed there are different types of angels, such as cherubim and seraphim.

There is a tendency for some to think of "guardian" angels as some kind of "shield" from physical harm... which can be misleading as to the real function of "ministering spirits" [although they could feasibly minister to God's heir by "warning" or "guiding" them away from a potentially harmful situation.
An "archangel" is a "chief angel"... conveying administrative authority over other angels [and who knows what else?].
Yet, Hebrews 1:14 says: "...are they not ALL ministering spirits...". Which would lead us to believe that even the highest ranking angel is the servant or minister of something or someone.
But, "guardian angel" is still not a term used in the Bible.

These names for angels are not mentioned in the canon Bible. There are books outside the biblical canon, but for various reasons, these books have been considered to be non-authoritative. They have been researched and found to be written well outside of the time period they are referring to, or some other factor that brings their authenticity into question. Although, they are sometimes considered to have some historical significance.

In the King James and New KIng James, only two 'good angels' are mentioned: Gabriel and the chief angel Michael. Lucifer, now Satan was good but is not anymore. Some point to Abaddon/Apollyon as another but it is a place and probably another name for Satan as Azazel (scapegoat) depicts his role in promoting sin and Beelzebub is the ruler of the demons - Satan.
