Why would parents give their children Seroquel just for going through the teenage phase and why would they lie to them about it anf tell them Seroquel is a sleeping pill or headache relief medicine?

== == When parents give you medicine to numb you from reality it is because they do not know how to deal with teenagers and have forgotten how hard it is. It doesn't mean they don't care about you it just means that they are scared and don't know what to say to you. But I'll tell you from experience, when you are at that age and starting prescription drugs it can only lead to addictions. The best thing to do is work out your problem while being drug free, and although seroquel is not a narcotic, it is still a routine drug which will assist in you building a habit of taking pills to make you feel better. The only way for you to get better is to help yourself and do things that make you happy. Teenage years are hard for everyone but it does end and everyone will become a different person. If you don't do things to make your happy without drugs now then you will be dependent on them the rest of your life. I take Seroquel, and it's no biggie, it helps me go to sleep and also helps with my autism. Seroquel can be used to treat many disorders, IE. bipolar, autism, ADD, not just schizophrenia, for some it even helps combat abusive behavior like alcoholism, drug addiction. It helps much with anxiety, that's why I take it. Regarding the cognitive effects of seroquel, I always take 2000 mg of Taurine which helps me concentrate, a multivitamin, and make sure to eat when you feel hunger, as Seroquel often makes you loose your ability to determine when you're hungry, so you have to remind yourself to eat. Some people notice some type of cognitive impairment, like slow thinking, that's because of the sedative effects of Seroquel, but notice that if you time your REM sleep and wake yourself at 8 hours, you can control this and not over sleep the 12-18 hours that some people will feel. I use a super loud alarm clock, and take 1 cup of gunpowder green tea to wake up, followed by a cold shower. Once you ingest the caffeine coupled with the metabolic enhancement of the green tea, then you will feel awake. Another thing that helps is to take an Emergen-C Vitamin C supplement with 1000 mg of Vitamin C, that will get you energized. Just don't overdo the caffeine cause it will elute all your vitamins and will lower your blood pressure and remember Seroquel already will lower your blood pressure somewhat. So, make sure to eat salt, or keep some pickles handy, as the pickle juice is the perfect osmolarity for your blood. I strongly recommend a folic acid supplement, this helps even out blood pressure, and also eat two bananas a day, that helps too. I like Seroquel, however, personally if I were not in the US, I would be taking Amisulpride. Amisulpride gives you all the benefits of Seroquel without the excessive sleeping stuff. Amisulpride is only available in Europe, Canada, and Japan, but it's a much better medication! I should mention that I take Seroquel due my inability to sleep, and or nightmares, I have Asperger's and OCD. I should mention that high dosages of Seroquel make OCD worse, which is why I stopped taking it. I would recommend Piracetam, I take that now, as well as a multivitamin. Note that I do have an Asperger's-OCD diagnosis. Seroquel combats the symptoms of schizophrenia, a mental disorder marked by delusions, hallucinations, disrupted thinking, and loss of contact with reality. It is the first in a new class of anti psychotic medications. Researchers believe that it works by diminishing the action of dopamine and serotonin, two of the brain's chief chemical messengers. It can also be used for bi-polar. Your parents would not be able to obtain this with out a script from your doctor. You must show some signs of schizophrenia or bi-polar. It is best to start treating it and keep it treated because if not then you may become worse, and you could end up doing things that you will undoubtedly regret. The other poster is correct, but I would like to add that your parents love you a great deal and are extremely worried about you. They love you enough not to want to frighten you and for that you should be thankful and not feel they are being deceitful. Often people with bi-polar or schizophrenia will refuse to take their medications (may forget or become angry over the fact they are ill or even trick themselves into believing they aren't ill.) As advised by the above poster you should remain on this medication and also have a talk with your parents. Let them know you are aware of what you are taking and discuss it with them. Tell them that from now on you are mature enough to handle what is happening with you and you want to work with them on your illness and mean what you say. I would like you to know that thousands upon thousands of people suffer from all forms of depression so don't be embarrassed, angry or feel that you are going to end up in an institution and that you're crazy. If you take your medications you should be just fine. I'm in my last year of high school, and have been taking Seroquel for a year. I just stopped, and am desperately trying to recover the critical thinking skills I lost during having taken it in time for final exams. Seroquel may help with a lot of things, but it has the potential to SERIOUSLY make you dumber. It is impossible to think at the same level as you used to think, or at least it is for me. You might want to consider this, or share it with your parents. Seroquel is not only used as a anti psycotic. It is also used for people with sleep disorders and night terrors. It can be used in patients for instance with PTSD and insomnia.

Is it possible to experience a reverse reaction from resperidol days after taking only one dose?

A reverse reaction? That term needs to be defined to figure out what you're asking.

Are you asking if Risperdal can cause psychosis (literally do the opposite of what it was designed to do)?

The answer to that question is, no.

Are you asking if it can permanently cure your illness in one dose (can it completely reverse a condition)?

The answer to that question is also, no, as it does not "cure" any disorder, it merely prevents the symptoms from occurring while it's in your system.

Do you mean, can it cause unpleasant side effects on the first dose (produce adverse reactions with only one dose)?

The answer to that question is, ABSOLUTELY. You will certainly experience at least some degree of sedation (you'll feel exhausted and unable to focus) and a possible laundry list of other side effects within as little as 20 minutes of your first dose.

Why is abilify available in Canada in generic form?

I do not believe Abilify is available in Canada at all, except through special access programme.

Does foclin or risperdal have a maoi?

A Mono-Amine Oxidase Inhibitor is a rather old-fashioned antidepressant. Neither Focalin nor Risperdal is an antidepressant at all, so you are totally safe. If you were taking an MAOI your doctor would have you on a strict diet where you have to cut out foods like pepperoni, aged cheese, and wines. Focalin is used to treat ADHD. Risperdal is used to treat psychotic symptoms associated with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I ALWAYS DO THE RESEARCH WHENEVER MY SON'S DOCTOR WANTS TO CHANGE HIS MEDS AND I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS ANSWER FOR HOURS NOW. WHAT DRUGS ARE MAOI'S? I CANT FIND ANYTHING ON THE NET ANSWERING THIS AS MY SON CANNOT HAVE MAOI'S WITH HIS CURRENT MEDS?

Can taking seroquel for bipolar mania and then later adding risperdol cause depression?

They can certainly make you feel sluggish and tired if taken together. I am assuming you are under a doctor's care - usually I see one drug or the other, but not both together. The number one side effect of both medicines is sedation or sleepiness.

Of course, there is always the possibility that you're just having a normal depressive cycle, and that it has nothing to do with anything going on in your life.

Call the Poison Control Center IMMEDIATELY if a baby eats ANY TYPE of medication. The effect the medication will have on your baby depends on a variety of factors. Can you snort geodon?

No, you should not snort Geodon. It is a very strong anti psychotic, and should only be used a prescribed by a doctor.

Example of recreational drugs?

"recreational" drug use typically refers to occasional drug use, such as using cocaine at a party, or smoking marijuana at a concert. Most any type of narcotic or illegal substances like marijuana, heroin, cocaine, etc. can be "recreational". The problem lies in the addictive nature of the agents themselves and what starts out as recreational may turn into dependence.

What are the side effects of a 7-year-old taking Strattera 36mg a day and risperdal 0.5 mg a day?

STRATTERA is one of the newer medications for ADD/ADHD that is in a different class than Ritilan. Ritilin is a STIMULANT used to treat Attention-Deficit and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. The reason they use a STIMULANT to CALM down a child(even though it sounds like the opposite of what you should do) is because in young children and adolecents, stimulants have a reverse (or a PARADOXICAL) effect on them. Given to an adult, it would "speed" them up, but not children. With Strattera, they try to get the same effect; that is slowing down the child so they can concentrate, learn, and behave WITHOUT the stimulant (a step in the right direction I think). My guess(I could be wrong) is that the 7 year old boy is from a single parent family and is quite a handful. So the doctor added Risperdal (A psychotropic tranquilizer) to help manage his behavior and outbursts. 0.5mg. (1/2 mg.) daily is about the most that is prescribed for children. The side effects, among others are; abdominal pain, anxiety, constipation, decreased activity, increased sleeping, weight gain... The side effects of Stratteta, among others are;>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>NOT AVAILABLE>>> CAN"T DOUBLE CHECK FACTS>>>>>>>>>The MOST IMPORTANT thing to remember is that medication alone doesn't work miracles; it should always be used in conjunction with BEHAVIOR THERAPY, COUNSELLING AND BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION TECHNIQUES. You can't just depend on the medication, because REMEMBER, the goal is to improve behavior, teach the child coping mechanisims, and appropriate behavior, then wean him off the meds; that should be the ultimate goal. I truly hope that I've helped answer some of your concerns. ALWAYS ask your pharamcist for a printout of all the medication that he takes, it will tell you what it's for, possible side-effects, suggested dosage and a whole lot more. I work with children with behavior problems and I know it's NOT EASY! P.S. Check out WebMd.com; type in ADHD....drug info; hit ALL, click GO. If your 15-year-old son takes Seroquel and lately he has been having major outbursts such as cursing and hitting are these side effects?

Your job is tough - you must unemotionally critique whether behaviour is worse as a result of drug introduction, or due to some other external thing that is affecting behaviour, e.g. stress, family interactions, etc. Keep "scientific" notes of better and worse behaviours, and discuss frequency/intensity with your son's doctors. I know if this were me, I would immediately suspect that the new drug is destabilizing my bipolar disorder. However, since I have gained somw benefits from Seroquel, I would choose to start at a lower dose and increase only very gradually, perhaps dosing only at night time... easy as she goes. Your son's condition is unique to HIM. There will be times that an option taken is the wrong one, and that is just the facts. Make your observation, take careful notes and learn from mistakes. You will know - possibly even before your son is aware - when things are improving. Best of luck, Angela Vallee seroquel is an anti-psycotic, and can cause angry outbursts and even psychotic episodes in people who are not psychotic.
