The same amount as any other horse of their size, really it depends on the size that they are and their needs, like if you were using them as a working horse then probably a 20l bucket twice a day would be suffice.

What is the habitat of a appaloosa horse?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

An appaloosa can live anywhere; although it does better in the plains. It was more of a western horse and it is very kind. You let an appaloosa find it's own personal place on your land, although if it has white, trees and a shelter are mandatory. The Natural Habitat was the forest in the plains of Iraq and Iran before they were even called that! They have been bred to white though, and you can't really trace back where they originated, but they can do well in any environment given, as long as it respects the horse's standards of the world, such as thoroughbred need a place for running. The Average horse needs approximately 1.5 acres each, but more is allowed, NO less. Some people think 1 acre is enough, but I recommend 1.5 acres because 1 acre is not very big at all. Appaloosas are like Thoroughbreds and like to run. Let it and give it a big space

A:

The Appaloosa is a man engineered horse that is found in many riding stables and barns throughout the United States.

In the wild, they are found in the southwest portion of the United States. They are an engineered version of saddle bred horses that are noted for the spotted buttocks.

Because of the genetic engineering of this species, they are also noted for having poor night vision. True Appaloosas became a separate breed in the 1800's and are theoretically descendants of horses owned by the Nez Perce Indians. These are said to be descendants of the horses that came to America with the Spaniards.

The Nez Perce, like the Lakota, spilt after multiple battles the US Military, some settled on the reservations, others chose to continue to live in the traditional ways.

The ones who refused to surrender were chased by 2,000 Army regulars over 2,000 miles across four states and rough terrain. Eight-hundred of their warriors were killed or taken prisoner during conflicts that sprung up along the route. Three hundred US Army and 1,000 Nez Perce civilians also perished.

On October 5, 1877, after near the Canadian border. Chief Joseph surrendered to General Howard, US Cavalry in Montana just south of the Canadian border.

The route of the Nez Perce flight is preserved by the Nez Perce Historic Trail.

For more insight into this sort of conflict, I highly recommend "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knees," the book or the HBO Film. Also "Dances with Wolves." Grab a box of tissues. []

How do you wash an appaloosa that is Grey with a blanket spot coat with colour enhancing wash?

User Avatar

Asked by MyLilRipper

When bathing a grey Appaloosa with color-enhancing wash, you would want to start gathering your usual bathing materials. Perhaps a bucket, sponge, sweat scraper, and a color enhancing shampoo made for light or white colored horses. These special washes are often blue or purple in color. Begin by soaking your horse with water. Once your horse is good and wet, begin to scrub and lather him/her with the special wash solution. I prefer to scrub in a circular motion covering the horse's body. Be careful not to use too much shampoo, as it may temporarily dye your horse if it is too concentrated! Since your Appaloosa has a blanket pattern, pay extra attention to scrubbing up his/her white areas, so that their white color will be vibrant and stain-free! Once your horse has been scrubbed clean with the wash, hose off your horse and remove all suds. You may want to remove excess water with a sweat scraper. Once dry, you should have a clean Appaloosa!
