What is a brightly coloured tropical fish?
It depends on what you consider a colorful fish. It also depends on what other fish are going to be in the tank. Guppies are very colorful but there are only a few fish that don't attack them. Swordtails are really colorful and they do well with other fish. Tetras are also very colorful but they don't go well with long tailed fish because they become fin nippers. Platys are another option they tend to be very colorful and do well with other fish. There are also chinchilids but they don't go well with other fish. Those are about all the naturally colored fish but there are the neon glass fish that are injected with dye through a hypodermic needle. (not my favorite)
While it's possible that many types of fish may appear to get along, they are not compatible.
Goldfish and gouramis should not be housed in the same tank as their needs are different. Goldfish are best living with goldfish.
How do you tell a male tetra fish from a female tetra fish?
if you have a lepord water frog then check the front webs ( hands) and see if ther is a spot on the hand or not. if ther isn't then its a girl! if ther is then its a boy!
wach out because the female lepord water frog can be pregnet and the male too!!!! so if ur male is pregnet then dont be suprized if its.
the average lepord water frog can have over 150 baby frogs.
Can you have 6 neon tetras 2 ghost shrimp and a betta fish in a 10 gallon aquarium?
It might be a little crowded, but you should be okay with regular water changes. Be careful though because guppies breed readily and with 5 of them you will have a lot of baby guppies and that will definitely overcrowd your tank.
What temperature do neon tetras live at?
neon tetras live at standard tropical aquarium temperatures, but a good place to start is about 76 degrees Fahrenheit
Angelfish usually feed on sponges and tunicates in nature. It can be hard to adjust them to other types of foods. You should always ask what the person you bought them from fed them. They'll normally take fresh chopped meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, marine fish flesh or scallops. There are frozen preparations available that are suitable for angelfishes with this type of specialized diet. Feed 2 to 3 times per day.
Blood worms, flakes, pellets, etc.
EDIT New Life Spectrum is the best i have found anywhere for cichlid food.
DO NOT FEED AFRICAN RIFT LAKE CICHLIDS BLOOD WORMS. It can easily lead to bloating and death.
Small ammounts of food should be added to the surface of the tanks water every morning and evening. The fish should eat up everything very quickly. You can keep on adding food for a maximum of 15 minutes or until the fish stop eating whichever comes first. Never ever leave uneaten food in a tank (Syphon or net it out). If left it will poison the water and kill the fish.
What kind of water do neon tetra fish require?
Yes, they need a tropical tank with filter, heater and light. 70-79 degrees is optimal for most tropical fish. I kept several neon tetras for years, they are mellow and easy to care for but tend to die if you do not take good care of the PH and parasites. Other breeds are hardier, but they can do fine with not too much fuss. I don't suggest any tanks smaller than 10 gallons. The rule is one inch of fish per gallon of water.
Do tetra fish live in warm water?
Tetras are tropical fish and require a temperature in the range of 69°F - 79°F (21°C - 26°C)
You will need about 2 male Gouramis and about 4 to 5 female Gouramis (all of the same type but you can have other Gouramis. Just watch out for fighting.) Also lower the tank level half way and make it about 78 to 80 degrees F. Then, put a lot of plants and hiding places with also floatingplants at the top. Watch as the male (in a few days to get comfortable with the tank) with make bubbles at the top of the water. When he does this don't bother the bubbles and turn of the filter to make sure they are safe. He will began to embrace the female. She will soon turn side ways then up side down, releasing the eggs. Without destroying the eggs, carefully get all the female Gouramis out of the tank for they're protection. Wiat a day or two until they hatch and removeall of the males. Finally, wait about 3 to 5 days to put the Gouramis back in the tank.
Are kissing gouramis and Silver Dollar fish compatible?
From personal experience I found my two kissing pink gouramis to be very gentle and happy fish, not semi aggressive as they are supposed to be but that is probably due to my large tank and having introduced them as babies. It really depends on your fish since each fish has a different personality, it should work in a big enough tank I would suggest a 40 gallon, but if you notice signs of aggression remove your aggressive fish and return it to the pet store, you don't want any of them to get hurt. Also if the aggressive fish is simply butting his head against the other, but no damage is being done it is okay, you can try and remove him for a while in a separate tank and sometimes some solitary confinement will help calm down the aggressiveness issue! :) Overall though from my experience I think you should be fine pairing the two, mine are with much smaller balloon mollies and don't seem to bother them.
Can male guppies live together?
Yes, I had around 20 guppies at my old house. They lived for around 3 months, kinda hard to keep track with all the breeding... Mine died from suicide, found it under a rock.
How do you know if your Oscar fish is pregnant?
Oscars, are chiclids and they have regular chiclids habits. Once Oscars pair off, they will swim together, and hang out together. They will start cleaning and moving gravel in the area where they'll want to breed. Oscars are alittle tougher to breed then other chiclids, and will sometimes eat their first few batches that they lay.
There are a number of meanings for the term "Molly" including:
A female name
The common name of a fish breed
The common terminology for an Irish prostitute
The common terminology for for methamphetamine
A female mule

The price of fish can vary from state to state, or province to province.
I would advise you just to ask your local pet store for prices, a lot of factors would contribute to the cost of product in any store.
I wouldn't recommend it. For one, Goldfish are dirtier fish than most tropical fish.. they emit considerably more bacteria. Also, loaches are considered semi-aggressive fish, and may not interact so well with goldfish.
Can glow fish live with neon tetras?
Fish aren't really big on playing. They are not that kind of pet - just for looking at, is all. The animals who play are the smarter ones like mammals. Fish just swim around looking for food, and have sex when it's that time of year.
Will the Oscar eat its baby fish?
Oscars are carnivorous. The best food for them is formulated pellets for large carnivores, which are carefully balanced to provide optimal nutrition (if you invest the money in good quality ones). Their diet should also be supplemented with fresh food. Do not feed them too much mammal protein (meat from pigs, sheep or cattle) as it is bad for them. If you are going to use it, offer lean beef heart. They will also take fish flesh or prawns.
Some people feed their Oscars live fish, but this is not recommended. Not only do some live fish carry parasites or disease, but they are nowhere near as nutritionally suitable as formulated food. Also, the feeder fish are often kept in inadequate conditions before being fed to the predator, and this cruelty is unnecessary - it's a lot easier to keep lumps of meat in the freezer than have to set up, cycle and maintain tanks for live feeders, and it's also cheaper and healthier for your Oscar.
How much room does an Oscar fish need?
It isn't so much a matter of size.; these fish take at least two years to mature and can't be sexed easily; one method to get a breeding pair is to raise about half a dozen in a large tank (200 gallons or more) to let them pair off naturally.
The best way to acquire a pair is to purchase a proven pair of adult breeders.
Be sure you have a breeding tank setup too, there requirements for a breeding tank and the layout which is not the same as the regular aquaria; the tank should be at least 100 gallons. No gravel, rocks plants etc. It will take about a month for the pair to get used to their breeding tank.
One or two power filters, one on each side of the tank to try and keep the water clean; clean water is very important when breeding fish and raising fry. This is almost an impossible task with Oscars because of the massive amounts of food that they eat (live goldfish, frozen krill, almost everything but the kitchen sink!) and their appalling table manners. You'll be changing 10 - 20% of the water every day so this will help. When the eggs have been laid, you will turn off the power filters and set up an air stone or to at the opposite side off the tank of where the eggs are. You'll need a heater of 500 watts or two at 250 watts. Not the submersible types, the kind lets you adjust the temperature from outside the tank.
All little more then what was asked, but I could go on about what to look for when breeding time begins. Any more questions, just ask :)
Take care,
CF
What fish can you keep with angelfish and neon tetra?
angel fish can eat neon tetras is the simple answer, but i have angel fish and neon tetras in the same tank and the angel fish does not bother the neons, although this may be because the angel fish is not full grown yet so it is a 50% chance
When will a pregnant black molly have its babies?
they are usually pregnant for around 4-6 weeks before they have the babies, however the parents will usually eat the babies within the first few hours.
(if your fish is about to have baby mollies i recommend separating the mother into a smaller tank using the same water they are currently in and separating the mother as soon as they are born or the other fish will eat them)
hope that helps.
Could a swordtail and angelfish be tank mates?
Sure you can -- but egg-layers & livebearers generally need different pH water (from each other) and if your angelfish thrives, your livebearers might not. And some swordtails nip fins -- so your angel might not like the pestering ... just sayin'
