"We also chose not to use any existing wire so that we could have full ownership and control over our part of the network." Mandalay Bay is using a Pelco 9760 switch with six nodes and a mixture of dedicated VCRs, MUXs and digital video recorders. Cable runs are from 100 to 2,500 feet. "Although we mostly use Cat 5 when we can, sometimes the choices in pairs (4, 25, 50 and 100) force us to use Cat 3 or multiple 25-pair Cat 5 cable," King reports. In most video transmission applications, coaxial cable is more difficult to install, resulting in higher labor costs. It is also less dependable because it is more susceptible to interference.
