Judith Resnik was a gifted child who excelled academically and played the piano. She showed an early interest in science and mathematics, which influenced her decision to pursue a career in engineering and become an astronaut.

Perhaps for testing purposes, to check for leaks. There would be no reason to do it with an astronaut inside, in fact it would be very dangerous. A blowout would give the astronaut the "bends" and quite possibly kill him. If I remember correctly, in space they run about 1/3 to 1/4 of sea level pressure, of pure oxygen, in order to keep the suits limber enough to move around in. Too much pressure inside and the suit would "starfish", splaying out and leaving the astronaut nearly immobile. Astronaut Captain Bock has not died. He is a fictional character in the novel "The Martian" by Andy Weir. The story follows astronaut Mark Watney, who is stranded on Mars and must rely on his ingenuity to survive.

Konstantin Tsiolkovsky is known as the Father of Astronautics. He was a Russian scientist and pioneer in the field of astronautics, known for his work in rocketry and space exploration. His theoretical work laid the foundation for many aspects of modern space travel.

On launch day, astronauts usually wake up four hours before launch. They enjoy a pre-launch breakfast, then get suited up in their orange Advanced Crew Escape Suit (ACES) space suits. After they are suited up and ready to go, the astronauts walk out from the Operations at Checkout Building at the Kennedy Space Center and climb into the Astrovan, which takes them to the launch pad. At the pad, the astronauts ride an elevator to the 195-foot level, where the close-out crew helps each astronaut board and strap into the shuttle. After that, the astronauts wait about two and a half hours until launch.

Actually John Glenn and Neil Armstrong were both from Ohio, and Jerrie Cobb (while she deserved to be) was never an astronaut.

The two best-known astronauts from Oklahoma were Gordon "Gordo" Cooper and Tom Stafford.

The straps that astronauts wear in the spacecraft are called harnesses. They are designed to keep astronauts secure and in place during launch, landing, and in case of emergencies.

Within your space station or spacecraft, the astronauts commonly wear a jumpsuit similar to a military flight suit. At times, they are shown in video wearing polo shirts or T-shirts.

To leave the spacecraft and work outside, astronauts wear a protective space suit. The suit provides pressure to keep your lungs from expanding too much, and air for them to breathe. Gus Grissom is the only astronaut to have flown on Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo space missions. He was a highly experienced astronaut who tragically lost his life in the Apollo 1 mission fire in 1967.

If they're really out in space, they wear the boots attached to the space suits.

During lift-off and re-entry they're usually also suited up. But a normal day in the space ship /space station they can wear almost anything. Usually very light shoes, almost slippers. Experiments had been made with velcro and magnetic soles, but they haven't worked out that well.

The last person to go into space alone was Yi So-yeon, a South Korean astronaut who flew to the International Space Station in 2008. She became the first Korean to travel to space and the first to do so alone.

The bodies of the seven crew members aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger were recovered after the shuttle disintegrated in a tragic accident in 1986. The remains were found in the debris field in the Atlantic Ocean.

There is no record of an astronaut named Miranda Bach.

There are many many many jobs that are vital for the success of a space shuttle mission.

Just to name a few:

Workers that actually assemble and prepare the parts of the space shuttle for a mission.

Engineers to determine if the shuttle and its payloads are safe and ready for flight.

Trainers to help prepare the astronauts for their mission.

Scientists to plan and assist with experiments onboard the space shuttle.

The Close-out crew to help ready the shuttle for launch while it's on the pad, and help the crew enter the vehicle.

Teams in the Mission Control Center to oversee the mission and assist the crew in planning and overcoming problems.

And the list goes on and on and on. There are many thousands of people who work hard to ensure the success of every Space Shuttle mission.

The three men involved in the Apollo 11 mission were Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first and second men to walk on the moon, while Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit aboard the command module.

While space itself does not have oxygen, astronauts have access to oxygen on space missions through systems that generate and regulate the supply of breathable air. This is necessary for them to survive in the vacuum of space.

On May 5, 1961, Shepard piloted the Freedom 7 mission and became the second person, and the first American, to travel into space.[3] He was launched by a Redstone rocket, and unlike Gagarin's 108 minute orbital flight, Shepard stayed on a ballistic trajectory suborbital flight-a flight which carried him to an altitude of 116 statute miles and to a landing point 302 statute miles down the Atlantic Missile Range. Unlike Gagarin, whose flight was strictly automatic, Shepard had some control of Freedom 7, spacecraft attitude in particular. The launch, return from space and subsequent collection by helicopter were seen live on television by millions.

The three Indian astronauts who will be part of India's first manned space mission, Gaganyaan, are Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, Squadron Leader Ravi Malhotra, and Group Captain Ranjitsinh Disale. They will undergo training in Russia before the mission, which is scheduled for 2023.
