Why does someone with asperger syndrome make a good detective?
An Autistic person may make a good detective because Autistic people can have a high attention to detail so spot things that neurotypical or allistic people wouldn't spot. An Autistic person may also be more logical and be able to keep emotion or social/cultural influences out of their work.

She designed new ways of managing cattle that minimized stress on the animals and made cattle management more streamlined and efficient.
Autism is a spectrum, so people with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) vary hugely in their abilities. Some cannot read and are very disabled; others are highly literate, with skills above the general population.
Yes, of course Autistic children will cuss.
Autistic children are little different to allistic or neurotypical children, if they are verbal then they will potentially cuss just the same as any other children. There is nothing about autism that would prevent an Autistic child from cussing or make them less likely to cuss.
Can electroconvulsive therapy be used on patients with Asperger's Syndrome?
ECT is sometimes useful for cases of severe depression, though it has come under withering fire and been accused of constituting torture because it essentially consists of a series of comparatively low-power electrical shocks to the brain, and these can destroy brain cells in some patients on whom it is employed. There is no evidence that it would provide any help to a person with Asperger's disorder.
Asperger's disorder is an autism-spectrum, or pervasive developmental, disorder. If the person also suffers from depression that is not responding to any other treatment, then ECT could certainly be tried. Asperger patients and autistic persons respond best to beharioral therapy. Asperger's Syndrome is NOT a true mental illness, and it should not be treated as one. Unfortunately, the Americam mental-health system all too often still does.
If my fiance's nephew has autism does that mean that we will have a child with autism?
There is a chance, seeing as it is in his genes/blood, but probably not a big chance though.
What are the cards that autistic people use called?
Well, I don't know about other Autistic people but the only cards I use are credit cards for my shopping! You'd have to be more specific as to what sort of cards you're talking about, you may mean ID cards or some Autistic people have cards to communicate.
Is a relationship with a person with asperger's syndrome doomed?
Not at all.People with Aspergers fall in love and care about people, just like people without Aspergers.
The thing is, people with Aspergers have their own style of communication, and people without Aspergers have a different style of communication. Emotions manifest in certain ways in persons with Aspergers, and in slightly different ways with non-Aspergers. So sometimes two people both with Aspergers get along well, because they understand eachother, and can read each other's emotions better. Sometimes neurotypicals (that is, people without Aspergers) don't propperly read the emotions of someone with Aspergers, and vice versa. So there can be challenges in a neurotypical/Aspie relationship, but that relationship is not doomed. You just have to both learn to understand each other, which is perfectly possible if you both want to.
The important thing to remember, is that each person with Aspergers is a unique individual with an individual personality, just like each person without Aspergers.
I have Aspergers. My closest friend does also. We have a lot of affection for each other. Sadly, not everyone else understands me. But he does. Our friendship proves that we are capable of deep emotionally felt love.
And it really is possible for a deep relationship to exist when one person is neurotypical (not aspergers) and the other has aspergers. But it does really help when you understand Aspergers.
Aspergers: Capable of deep love, like anyone else.
May have more subtle or different ways of showing emotion.
Tended to be socially awkward when young. May have learned social skills in adulthood, or may still come across as a little weird.
Will always have an Obsession. What this is about, depends on the individual. If he/she is in love with you, you may be their Obsession.

I thought I should amend this because the above poster obviously is only giving the reader one side of the story, which is also highly simplistic. Furthermore, the statement that "there is [sic] no advantages of autism" is a blatant lie. Or a misunderstanding. I can't really tell which, because whoever wrote it has poor grammar and doesn't know what they're talking about.
It is a misconception that there are no advantages to Autism/Aspergers. While it is true that we have difficulties, particularly as children, such as with socializing, and sometimes with speech itself. However, Aspergers people usually have fewer difficulties with speech, and can be [like myself] extremely articulate with speech, and very careful and thoughtful about what they say. "Normal" Autism people may have much more difficulty with "standard" forms of communication, but are in no way less intelligent than the average person. Instead, they may rely heavily on hand signals and other forms of non-verbal communication. The specific advantages of Autism/Aspergers may not be present in all individuals. We are are as diverse as the rest of the "normal" (neurotypical) population.
However, they may include :
> A high degrees of focus on single subjects. Sometimes, this means that people on the Autism Spectrum MAY make ideal scientists, engineers, and researchers, due to their dogged determination and concentration.
> Sometimes brutal honesty. Some Autistics, and Aspergers people, like myself, may have a difficult time with any form of dishonesty. This does not in any way mean that Autistics cannot lie : it just means there MAY be a tendency towards bluntness and brutal honesty. This is a double-edged sword, however, because some people can't handle this level of honesty.
> Critical thinking. Less prone to being swayed by emotions, Aspergers and Autistics may be well-suited towards clear-cut, rational thinking.
> Improved spatial perception abilities. I also possess this ability. This means that I am a 3-dimensional thinker. Not all of us have this ability, but when it is present it may be significantly more advanced than in the neurotypical population.
> Resistance to group-think/orthodoxies. This one is important. Because of a tendency to think for one's self, and not be influenced by peer pressure, Autistics are often not easily able to go along with conformity. This has clear advantages to those who value free-thinking and self-determination.
Most of the advantages to Autism/Aspergers are subtle, and sometimes easy for the ignorant to miss. They also do not necessarily make it easier to get along with "normal" society.
About me : Male, 34, Aspergers Syndrome. Grew up in Northern California, and was teased, harassed, and generally misunderstood as a child, by my peers - virtually constantly, I must honestly say. This is because of an enormous failure of society to accept That Which is Different.
Also, I was diagnosed as a child and had (and still have) most of the typical traits of this Spectrum. I'm not the most social of people. I don't particularly care anymore about this, though, as I'm intent to live my life as I see fit. I'm not saying I've not had difficulties with life -- I most certainly have, mostly with the ignorance of mainstream society, but I simply no longer care about those who do not understand me and what I truly am.

Can a severely autistic person be considered a child legally even if they are 40 years old?
They might need legal guardian as adults, yes. If they are so impaired by the condition so they can not work, pay bills or do everything else we do as adults they will need help.
What happens in the body to cause the disease for autism?
Autism is not a disease, Autism is a neurological difference. As Autism is neurological it occurs in the womb, mostly we believe it is caused by genes or genetic mutations, although environmental factors such as medications taken by the mother during pregnancy may cause autism.
You are pregnant and the doctor says the baby could have autism how did it get autism?
Switch Doctors! Autism is not diagnosable until at least after age 1. There is currently no genetic test or anyway to determine if a baby has autism during pregnancy. If the siblings have it you do have an increased risk but other than that you can't tell until later in early childhood. Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder and the criteria for diagnosis can be found in the DSM-IV Diagnostic and Statistics Manuel for Mental Health. Diagnosis can only be made by a medical doctor (try to find one specialized in psychiatry) a psychologist or a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
I have my master in counseling and am working on my license. I have worked with children with autism for over 10 years.
How is Pickwickian Syndrome diagnosed?
Some tests that can be used to diagnose this condition include echocardiography to determine heart enlargement or pulmonary hypertension. Giving the patient multiple sleep latency tests can help give an objective measurement of daytime sleepiness.
We can force all children to watch TV for hours on end. This will lower the attention spans of the children making those who have impulsive behavior attention deficits or behavior problems look tame. We would also have to make sure none of the children watch CSPAN or the Discovery Channel. Spongebob and Pokemon would sufficiently lower everyone's attention span.
Do all autistic people lack a sense of humor?
No, not all autistic people lack a sense of humour. There is a saying in the autism community: once you've met one autistic person...you've met one autistic person. autistic people are as different and varied as neurotypical people.
There are many levels and spectrums of autism and Asperger's syndrome. Statistically, however, people with a mental or behavioural condition are less likely to obtain a sexual and romantic partner. This is not based on the fact that they may be discriminated against, but rather, that their social aspects may not be as well developed. As a result, they may have difficulty socialising with members of the opposite sex.
That being said, there are many autistic and Asperger's people who are able to lead a normal life and happily find a partner. It is important that the families and friends of the autistic or Asperger's sufferer support him/her as best they can.
Can you get autism form being born with a defective thyroid gland?
No, a person cannot 'get' Autism due to a defective thyroid gland or for any other reason. Autism is a neurological difference that occurs during development within the womb, people are born Autistic and do not become Autistic.
Is Asperger's Syndrome treatable?
Many, if not most, Aspies find that AS doesn't require treatment so much as simply learning to work around it; it generally isn't a disability as such, and many Aspies find that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
So far nobody seems sure about what causes AS, and there's arguably no one cause; it's a label for a collection of symptoms, rather than defined by its causes. As a result, it doesn't have any particular treatment, though counselling or psychotherapy have been found by some to be effective in dealing with the... well, "language barrier", almost, between Aspies and neurotypicals.
The main treatment tends to be for recently diagnosed people, given antidepressants and things to deal with the depressions that often (though not always) accompany undiagnosed AS. But many don't need them.
How many autistic children are there currently living in the world?
The CDC estimates that one in every one hundred and ten (1/110) children have an autism spectrum disorder and many believe this number is growing. Autism varies in severity.
One possibility is William's Syndrome. It is not always allied with severity in cognitive delay, but it cannot be ruled out simply for that reason. The two friends I have with the condition are considerably more positive and optimistic than many of my friends with Asperger's.
They are therefore far more likely to repeatedly engage in approaches that might lead to real friendship and more typical social participation, but on the whole seem about as likely to succeed as people with Asperger's (i.e. as an exception to the rule that they can make and maintain friendly relationships they succeed from time to time and that this is often as dependent on the other person being accepting of difference and identifying their own differences as it is upon the skills of the person reaching out).
