How do you teach an autistic 12 year old girl to speak?
I can help with this a lot, however I would need to know how Autistic they are, prefably on the CAR scale.
Mild (10-30) They should be able to learn how to speak on their own, however, it might take a while for them to learn.
Moderate (31-45) They might not do well with words, the best thing to do is to Practice Practice Practice, Special ed classes would do the best for her.
Advanced (46-60) The best thing to do is to Practice Practice Practice. Keep in mind that although you may practice a ton, they are on the high end of the spectrum. They may not be able to speak at all, but keep your hopes high!

Is Asperger's Syndrome good or bad?
Honestly, It is very beneficial. Do not think I am saying this because I myself have asperger's syndrome. It is because we have great facinations in certain subjects like technology (Bill_Gates) Politics (Benjamin_Franklin, please note that he was alledged to have asperger's syndrome) and much smaller subjects, such as the creation of atoms and such, Even Autism can be very beneficial in this subject. I believe that you should be proud of having Asperger's Syndrome and Autism despite the unbenificial social life, the sometimes disability to learn in class, Possible Eating Disorders and so fourth. If there was a cure, I would not take the cure because I am happy to be an "aspie" because of the benefits.
What are the physical symptoms of autism?
Dark circles under their eyes No eye contact
Delayed motor skills
Are there special characteristics traits in Asperger's Syndrome?
These are the characteristics of a child with Aspergers:
~You hear people talk very loudly
~What people say doesn't always make sense
~It's as if earth is an unknown planet, and you have no clue how everyone behaves, or how you should behave
~You don't know how to start a conversation or how to keep it going, it can be very hard to learn how to
~You may be interested in a certain thing, and you study just that (for example, dogs)
~You could become an expert on that certain thing (using the example, if you're into dogs, you could become a dog trainer, or a veterinarian, or an animal therapist, and so on)
~You may eventually learn how to be like others, but you'll still feel a little different
Can constant fights at home worsen the condition of an autistic child?
Yes, constant fighting in the home can have a detrimental affect on any child. An autistic child who is stressed, or overloaded due to empathy towards others in the family suffering, will have worsened symptoms.
Is there a symbol for neurotypical people?
`Neurotypical people` are what none Autistic Spectrum`disordered` people are considered to be. It has been said that if it were not for those for instance having Asperger`s that mankind would still be sitting around the fire talking, & that the people with Asperger`s are the ones who went off & created new inventions, indeed it is now thought that Einstein himself had Asperger`s for instance. Asperger`s is a `hidden` disability, we look `normal` (whatever that means), & indeed people on this section of the Autistic spectrum have average, or above average IQ`s, although just how one tests the IQ of an Autistic person with no speech I do not know. However are brains function differently to `neurotypical persons`,& one of our main difficulties is socializing, & that can lead to a very lonely life, indeed females are more likely to be misdiagnosed as depressed, which they no doubt are as well, but the root cause of this an be Asperger`s. There are some very well known & successful people with Asperger`s, but they are the exception rather than the rule. Despite films like `Rainman` Autism is still not widely known about, let alone what it means to have an Autistic Spectrum `Disorder, indeed `Rainman` might have caused more confusion in the general public, as `Idiot Savant`, as people like the person portrayed in the film are extremely rare & no-one understands where their particular amazing abilities in a particular field stem from. The general public tends to consider us `wierd``Viva la difference` I say, after all where would we be without Einstein, Newton, another thought in retrospect to have had Asperger`s. It is often misstakenly considered to be a male `condition`, but due to females tending to be more socialable creatures it goes under diagnosed in females. There also tends to be an hereditary factor involved, which makes a mockery of those who think that people like me don`t ever marry, not all Autistic Spectrum `Disordered people are born out of wedlock!!
Indeed if Hans Asperger had not been Austrian, like Hitler himself more notice would have been taken of his findings, but because of Hitler, he was ignored for many years, certainly in Europe, I don`t know about America as an American Doctor was making the same discoveries at the same time as Dr Hans Asperger. what we do know now is that brain imaging can discover it in very young infants, & the earlier the intervention & appropriate help a child receives the better & more likely they are to have a happy & successfull life. Who knows the discoveries that are being made using umbilical blood that has been `banked` at birth, has been shown to reverse the effects of Cerebal Palsy for instance, maybe it could help in Autistic Spectrum `Disorders`?, & unlike umbilical cord blood from someone else there aren`t any complications that this potentially could cause. As things stand in the UK, even those with Asperger`s are very unlikely to ever have a job, & with our current situation where it can run into the hundreds after a handfull of jobs, what chance do todays adults with Asperger`s have?
I admit that I do not know what you mean by a `symbol` for `neurotypical` people, but what I have written is what the difference is: & to sumerise it is those not on the `Autistic Spectrum`
I'm not sure but i think its when someone is extremly shy and they want to be alone. Some don't like cameras because they think people are watching them.
Do people with autism have trouble concentrating or paying attention?
I think that's often the case when it comes to concentrating on the things which they're not really interestd in. Their mind goes off a lot to the things they they are interested in, & on those things, they are "Extra focussed". Or at least; that's what I'm like. I don't think i's a problem for everybody with ASD, but I do know that ADD is quite a common co-morbid of autism.
Can an older person get autism from a stroke?
No, an older person cannot get autism from a stroke.
Autism isn't a disease so it's not something you can 'get', it's a neurological difference so it's something that you are. Being a neurological difference means it is something you are born as, it's formed when the brain is formed in the womb and a person cannot change from neurotypical to autistic by having a stroke.
Is grief harder to deal with when you have autism?
Obviously everyone is different and you can't compare grief of one person to another.
With that said however, Autistic people have higher affective empathy so tend to feel grief deeply and especially when they see it in others. However Autistic people have lower cogitative empathy so aren't always able to express empathy or their emotions to others, some people assume this means Autistic people do not feel empathy or grief and can give Autistic people a hard time for this or pressure to present a certain way can make Autistic people feel uncomfortable.
Can an Autistic be smarter then people with other disabilities?
No. If you're asking whether people with autism have higher intelligence than people without, it depends on what autism spectrum disorder they have. A person with aspergers or high-functioning autism will probably have higher intelligence than those without, and a person with low-functioning (severe) autism will have mental handicaps. If your question is whether people with autism have a special form of intelligence that other people don't have, then here is how I would put it. The vast majority of the information that a non-autistic person absorbs and remembers is social ("I think he was angry with me," or "Jill's birthday is April 28") or relevant to everyday life, (Which maybe why the adaptable, insightful social butterfly's brain completely shuts down in math and chem class. They aren't unintelligent. They have a great amount of social intelligence.), whereas the vast majority of the information that an autistic person absorbs and remembers is factual or sensory (the appearance of the bricks of a building, the equations taught in class, minute details relating to their "fixation" topics.) If your question is whether the experience of an autistic person is superior to that of a non-autistic person is somehow divine, the answer is no. The experience of an autistic person allows them a very unique perspective on the world, and may even lead them to make great contributions in an area of their fixation or interest, but it is the abilities of a non-autistic person that allow you to make friends or go grocery-shopping. Both types of people and experiences are needed in the world, and no type is superior. As to whether the experience of an autistic person is divine, probably not. It is hard enough to find a convincing argument for God's existence, and it's assuming a lot to say that autism is a divine experience or "God's will."
Do people really suffer from autism?
Imagine if the very environment you are born into caused you emotional or even physical pain. Imagine if going to the grocery store made you scream and bang your head on the floor. Does the touch of another human being make you scream in agony? These are just a few of the things that my son went through when he was growing up with autism. Yes, they suffer and so do their families.
A person cannot become Autistic, a person is born Autistic. Not speaking does not mean that a person has become Autistic, there are many reasons why a neurotypical person may stop speaking.
Is Asperger's Syndrome caused by a pathogen?
There is no known pathological connection to autism.
I am not a physician, neurologist, what-have-you, but my understanding is that it a neuro-biological condition brought about by certain anomaly's of at least 3 genes (don't ask me which ones or even if that the total number.) The short answer is that it's genetic in origin causing the person with the disorder to fall somewhere on a spectrum from full autism (where one is unable to communicate in any fashion) to high functioning (where one is unable to understand nonverbal communication.) I would suggest that you do further research on-line in order to more fully understand this condition.
For more detail on possible pathogens, the stages of development impacted, and specific genes involved, see:

Can you wear blue shorts on go blue for autism?
You can wear whatever you want whenever you want. It's worth pointing out that going blue for autism is a campaign of Autism Speaks, which is considered a hate group by the autism community as they do a lot of harm to autistics.
What type of mutation causes autism?
The mutation that causes Autism is a rare genetic mutation. There are three different genes that are linked to the cause of different disorders on the Autism Spectrum.
Yes, of course Autism is real - is your brain real?
Autism is a neurological difference, our brains are as real as anyone elses brains. There's no way that anyone can realistically claim that Autism does not exist or is not real.
Why treat autism with aba therapy?
That's one thing to never take an autistic child to. Many parents have risked taking their autistic child to ABA therapy or therapies similar to ABA because seeing their child is nonverbal or they stim a lot, they have a hard time with communication. Autistic children do learn to communicate when they get older, but they still need to stim. ABA is something that prevents that and forces them to look normal. Most autistic children had experienced abuse from ABA. ABA takes away the energy in an autistic child. If autistic individuals are not allowed to stim- that even cause them to have lack of energy.
How is it different dating someone with autism?
One of the biggest differences when dating an autistic person is that there is no game playing or expecting that partner to just magically know what it is you expect them to do - you have to be very upfront and clear about what you want. A big positive to dating autistic people is that autistic people tend to be very trustworthy and loyal so a lot less likely to cheat than neurotypical people.
Can autistic people talk without implants?
Of course!
Most autistic people are verbal, those who are non-verbal are normally non-verbal as a direct result of their autism not a physical disability that is preventing them from speaking - thus there is no implant that would help them to talk.
Do people with autism think of killing themselves?
Not necessaily. The suicide rates in Japan are extremely high at the moment, which has nothing to do with autism at all.
How is locked-in syndrome diagnosed?
Diagnosis is evident in a conscious individual with no muscle functioning, save for the ability to respond to questions by blinking a certain number of times per the interviewer's directions
