this is a physics question. there is no straight answer. in theory one could survive a car accident at 300 miles per hour.

consider this. you can die going 20 if you arent buckled but survive a high speed car accident. what is happening here?

in a collision, take an egg for example, the energy is transfered to something else. when an egg drops from a ceiling and hits a concrete floor, it breaks. so would you. if you can slow the egg down and increase the contact time it has with the ground during the collision, then you can save the egg. you are the egg. and you want to know the survivable speed for a car accident. as far as physics go, any speed. but if you want to know for your typical midsize sedan and a front end collision into a solid object, i wouldn't push 120. might hurt. strongly don't advise either unless you are trained, have safety equipment, on a closed track, and are not intending to crash. this is why there are speed limits obviously. cars have airbags to increase the impulse of the crash because human bodies don't like instantaneous change in motion.

other elements to be considered is the orientation of the collision or the elements that may become projectiles. in an accident many things are unpredictable. many people die every day because of accidents. some unfortunatly because of poor engineering and some as a result of bad luck.

Usally anytime you get hit from the back you are not at fault however there are some acceptions if the car ahead rolls back more than 4 feet, taillights are not working propperly or if the car in front skids and leavs tire marks from breaking to hard it is the one in the fronts fault. There are also no fault accidents like ice, hydroplaing, inproplly marked curbs, or the sun being in ones eyes can be considered as a no fault there for the accident is handles as no fault and insurance clams will be handled indivtually

It is the 'fault' of the person who opened the door into the stream of traffic. In order to 'beat' the charge they would have to show that the operator of the vehicle intentionally swerved to hit the door.

I was hit on September 1st 2009 by someone who ran a red light. It took until Tuesday October 13th for her insurance to finally accept 100% liability. My truck took roughly 7,000 dollars in damages and I have been in a rental car since September 6th.

I have had an X-Ray, MRI, six weeks of physical therapy(3x a week), and started a series of three injections in my back over six weeks. The MRI revealed I had two freshly torn disc. I have had a previous back injury from 2004 that required surgery(2005) and the accident has also inflamed that area.

Here is my question. The lawyer said my case for future medical, pain and suffering, and lost time at work could be worth 75,000 to 100,000. The problem is my current medical/therapy could surpass both her limit and my uninsured limit leaving me with 0 for future bills, pain and suffering.

Not exactly. If you do it on purpose then yes. But if you accidentally hit a mailbox with your car, don't keep driving get out and tell the person who it belongs to so that you wont get in trouble.
