What is the average weight of a male ballet dancer?

It definitely depends on the height of the male and what his "place" in a company may be. All should be trim and proportionate in muscle.

If he was a taller man, he will be used for partnering the women more than someone that is shorter than the girl. If he is 6ft and taller he could be between 170-200lbs or more. It all depends on his build.

A shorter male dancer will most likely be used for speedy fast roles. Lots of petit allegro and jumps. He could be around 130-165lbs.

I danced for 20 years, 11 professionally.

What kind of clothes should a woman wear when going to watch a ballet?

  • Basic rule of thumb is, how ever much the ticket cost will depend on what you should wear. This means if the ballet is at a large theatre then its most likely expensive, so dress up, if its just a small regional theatre dress smart casual. If its a gala to a famous ballet company perhaps 'black tie'. Just remember that ballet was originally for royalty so its important to show respect even if its a little one with children performing.
  • Also something that flatters your body shape and that you feel comfortable in

I agree with the above. The main things to consider are your personal comfort and how formal this occasion will be. It is better to overdress than underdress (not literally) in my opinion. :) I agree with with both of the above but if I were you i would wear something nice but not wedding nice. Like a nice dress or a long sleeved collared shirt w/ jeans. That is just my opinion.

  • Let me tell you this: "I was stupid enough to wear jeans to Sleeping Beauty". That's right. I was stupid, and embarrassed.. Standing amongst people wearing formal dresses, pretty shoes, and their hair all done up... I only have 15 minutes to get ready though... LOL. but still, that's my experience.....

Can a boy wear a girls leotard?

Yes, but it is not recommended.

Male dancers wear leotards, so you might want to check with a store that sells leotards for men. Male leotards are made differently than women's leotards, and would fit them correctly.

What ballet is performed in bye bye birdie?

It depends on how it's choreographed, but there would most likely be some in Put on A Happy Face, or perhaps other songs with dance numbers, like Lots Of Living. It all depends on how it's directed. There are two Ballets in Bye Bye Birdie: The Shriner's Ballet and The 100 Ways Ballet. The Shriner's Ballet is done with Rosie and a group of shriners, after Rosie decides to have a night on the town. The less perfromed 100 Ways Ballet, is a fantasy Ballet during which Rosie thinks of "100 ways" to kill Albert.

What do you have to wear to Ballet?

I do ballet, so you have to wear tights, a leotard and a skirt, plus ballet slippers.... it may be different though in other ballet schools

What pointe shoes?

Pointe shoes (aka toe shoes) are shoes that we ballerinas wear to enhance our performance. Contrary to popular opinion, Pointe shoes are not made out of wood, but of paper mache. The shoes give the illusion that we are on our toes, while in reality the shoes are supporting our weight and our toes are being cushioned by padding.
Pointe shoes are not comfortable, though, and many blisters, bunions, and foot injuries come from dancing "en Pointe." To be able to dance on Pointe you must have had several years of dance and very strong ankles.

"If you are asking what Pointe shoes are then they are ballet shoes elevated to look like ballerinas where dancing on clouds. If you're asking what Pointe shoes do, they elevate a dancer to full pointe." -Dancecrazed

His mother was a die hard balletomane (ballet fanatic). He was the athletic type--into rugby, soccer, swimming and the like. But his mother put him in ballet class because she was so into the sport. He was the ripe age of 12, but his determination, physical prowess and enthusiasm put him near the top of the class very soon.

After his mother's suicide, he put himself into ballet completely.

In ballet do you need good body alignment?

i am a dancer and i know that ballet is not easy! you must have perfect posture and be able to stand still while balancing on your toes. it takes lots of practice though. if you would like to become a dancer but you don't have great posture, i didnt either! after 2 months of ballet my dance instructor told me i was becoming a "very beautifil ballerina" so it didnt take me very long. now i actually have perfect posture and im not a kluts anymore. so honestly when istarted ballet i was terrible and a kluts and didnt have good posture. so if that's like how you are and you want to dance as a ballerina, it takes time but it pays off so trust me when i say this: go for your dreams and youll get there eventually! good luck and i hope this helped!

What are the similarities of contemporary and classical ballet?

The fundamental: Ballet training. All leg and arm positions are basically the same, with any performance it is perfectly acceptable in both branches of ballet to "cheat" and stylize the details (like angle of hands or head) a bit. In Classical, however, there are limits to how much one can do. For example, rarely in a Classical ballet class do they ask you to work with parallel legs: they must always be turned out. Additionally, costumes and music are usually classical as well. Costume is pink tights, and some form of tutu, at least. Contemporary ballet is easier to define. It might, choreographically, appear to be a mixture of modern or lyrical dance and ballet. Costuming and music doesn't have to be classical either. It's really quite supportive of experements.

What do you have to wear to ballet class?

You should wear a black leotard (any style) and pink or white tights. Wear pink ballet slippers or pointe shoes. Hair must be secured in a ponytail or a bun. optional- add a black or pink ballet skirt if you would like. boys- black shorts and white shirt. Wear black ballet shoes. Bring a water bottle.
