What genre did Stravinsky write?

He is widely acknowledged as one of the most important and influential composers of 20th century music.

As to genre, this is almost as contentious as discussing nowadays (in the second decade of the 21st century) whether someone belongs to a particular race! But to stick my head above the parapet, he wrote 20th-century art music (as opposed to creating folk music or commerical popular music) - including ballets, concertos, choral works, songs, chamber music, symphonies and operas.

What is the blurb of Igor Stravinsky's story of the soldier's tale?

The Soldier's Tale comes from 1918, a lean post-war time. Stravinsky was broke, deprived of his royalties because of the Revolution, and his other source of income, Diaghilev's Ballets Russes was also going through lean times and so The Soldier's Tale is scored for just seven instruments: clarinet, bassoon, cornet, trombone, violin, double bass and percussion.

There is a concert version that has speaking parts. The readers are the Devil, the Soldier, a Princess and an unseen Reader. The Devil and Princess also dance.

The music was composed by Igor Stravinksy but the libretto was written C.F. Ramuz.

In the related links box below, I posted a page with a good blurb.
